Green River was CCR's breakthrough record, and probably their best all-around album, despite them having better songs on Cosmo's Factory. They improve upon Bayou Country, utilizing the same Southern-fried grooves (I never got this, because they were from the Bay Area, but pulled it off so well) mixed with blues rock. The vocals are alot more mellow than some of their other work, but John Fogerty's flow is on point, and Green River also features some of his best guitar work. This album has an intimate feel to it, and much less of a country music type vibe, although it does sound southern . An excellent record, made by a very talented band just entering their prime, and one of the finest records of the 60's. Standouts include Bad Moon Rising, Lodi, Sinister Purpose and the title track.

CCR continue with another great record. It doesn't have the spark of their previous two epics but it is consistent. You have already understood the pattern and the style of swamp rock and here it is even clearer. The band concentrates on short length songs with no specific solos being impressive. I have found anything up to (and including) Lodi a fine CCR release
