the first bathory album quorthon did solo, first third of the album is very soft with electric guitar providing a minimal frame most of the time until 109, then picks up slightly with more prominent but still simple, punk and even nu riffage. easily bathory's worst release especially after the 5 years since blood on ice, but evidentally a necessary transitional period in order to get the softer folk elements just right on his trv magna opera, the nordland albums, as the closer day of wrath heavily implies. for most bathory i keep the entire disc in my library, but for this i can only deem lake of fire, 109, and death from above

I gave this another spin, and mos surprisingly: I felt I must re-rate this, because it was actually so much better than how I remembered. Too bad the atmosphere was gone after the 3 songs, but at least the heavy riffs remained. With better vocals, this could have been a very good record. Bump
