Bathory is a band which really covers a broad spectrum of emotions. They have their Black Metal stuff, which is really gritty, raw, and battle-themed, and then they have albums like Twilight Of The Gods. Like more of a viking power metal sounding album, this one features insanely epic atmospheres, powerful riffs and clean vocals. Now, Quorthon is NOT a good vocalist when it comes down to his singing, and that is clearly apparent as soon as they come in. His singing is usually off key, overly cheesy, and his transitions from a high to low pitch is quite rocky and obviously troublesome. Putting that aside, though, we have a marvel of epic viking metal with some of the most insane guitar work ever to come from this band. Solos and grandiose riffs abound in this amazing spectacle of what instruments are capable of doing to human emotions, and where they are able to take us.

Alright. A good album still, but certainly Bathory?s weakest. He tries an entirely new style dropping the BM completely and going full anthemic. The music gets too repetitive and has too little kick though. Props for inproving his guitar playing though.

This is one of the coolest atmosphere albums which actually separates it from other Bathory albums and is something completely new. It? like prototype of what was released in Nordic countries between 1991 and 1995.

Twilight Of The Gods is Quorthon's magnum opus. Not only is it the crowning achievement of
viking metal, but it is truly Quorthon at the height of his powers. Unbelievably impassioned
vocals, epic, ethereal and almost religious lyrics (the viking religion of course),
expansive arrangements, epic progressive songwriting, catchy AND powerful melodies, and of
course amazing riffs. Every single song is excellent, with the title track being a top-five
Bathory song. Most of all however, it is mature and outright beautiful for most of the run-
time. It is an intimate, emotionally charged, artful spiritual and ultimately powerful work
of music. Truly a masterpiece.
