Great old-school death metal with war theme lyrics. Drums sucks badly, that cannot be called groove anymore, just shitty playing. But I used to it. The sounds are maybe too clear for asphyx. But still, this is one of the top-3 albums for this year.
It's old school balls out aggressive brutal death metal occasionally contrasted by the occasional slower doom-death sections which help sustain focus throughout the 50 or so minutes of musicrCompare Deathhammer to Deicide's latest release - both are no frills death metal - one is from a once legendary band who've been coasting for years; the other has produced album after album of outstanding music throughout his career and Deathhammer is no exception: it's a superior example of pure aggression - the way it sounded when both Benton and van Drunen sounded back before anyone came up with all the fusions and hybrid genres that we have today.
Solid, no frills death metal. Overall, they could have made the album slightly more interesting...being "true death metal" doesn't mean you have to be boring...but it is still a good listen.
Upon first listen, I thought it was pretty good, but I did expect more also. I really like his vocals though, they remind me of John Tardy. Like you said above, I think the drums kind of lack in the production sound, it seems compressed heavily.
