| 1.0 awful | Channing Freeman STAFF | January 13th 12 | The only thing "rebellious" about this album is Max Bemis's absolute refusal to do anything he said he would do. The self-titled album succeeded because, although it was so different from Say Anything's other albums, it was mostly secure in what it was. It was a record that dared to be different and succeeded because of it. Anarchy My Dear tries to live up to ...Is A Real Boy's legacy in the worst ways possible; somehow, Bemis thought he could write something similar even though his state of mind is completely different. His attempts at venomous songwriting are laughable. "Admit It Again" is one of the most supercilious, unnecessary songs I have ever heard, and the hook in "Burn A Miracle" shamelessly tries to emulate one of the best parts of ...Is A Real Boy - the "ha ha ha" sections of "Slowly Through A Vector." This whole album is a fucking bullshit attempt at reclaiming something that Bemis should have been perfectly happy to leave well enough alone. Don't bother with this dead jellyfish of an album.

| 4.0 excellent | Tempertemperature | January 15th 12 | Look at this album more objectively and realize it's pretty good. Compare it to other Say Anything albums and you've fucked yourself from the start. It's a product of the hype that came before it and the inability of it to live up to the claims that it would be IARB:2

| 0.0 | Adam Thomas EMERITUS | January 13th 12 | Everything about Anarchy, My Dear is a tepid, half assed retread of some prior part of Max Bemis' career. Beneath the melange of ideas already done better lies nothing but recurring words and phrases that document everything we wish he wasn't. His insecurities are still the main creative force for Max, but where he used to poke fun at them on past albums (leading to a sort of meta self aware quirky charm) now they seem to control him leading him to sound like a burnt out and bitter shell of his former self. Even more, his once biting wit and crass humor no longer hit with any weight due to his own imposed restrictions making Anarchy, My Dear little more than the sound of a man pissing in the wind.

| 3.5 great | KrissWatts | January 14th 12 | Understandable that some people are majorly disappointed by this release but it's petty to rate it so lowly due to the anger of your expectations not being met. Anarchy, My Dear is fantastic at points, true other songs aren't great but that doesn't undermine the whole album.rAlso, why is Bemis taking the brunt of abuse? Say Anything isn't a one man band.

| 0.0 | Adam Knott STAFF | January 13th 12 | Bemis' songwriting has always found itself perched on a knife-edge between brilliant and retarded. This is the point at which he tumbles gracelessly into the latter camp, stale, uninspired and cringe-worthy.

| 4.0 excellent | Rawrz | January 14th 12 | Album gets better and better on repeated listens. After getting over the disappointment from Max's hype and just judging the album on its own merits, its quite enjoyable. Only song Im not really a fan of is Overbiter, and the chorus to Admit It Again, though the rest of that song is great.

| 2.0 poor | patrickfannon | January 13th 12 | Anarchy, My Dear, on which Max Bemis topples headlong into that which has threatened him, and kept him so interesting, for so long: insipidness. Save for "So Good," "Sheep," and "Peace Out," the latter of which represents one of the best songs in Bemis' entire catalogue, the record meanders around, bleating and baying wildly, awash in tinny, shallow production and heartless, overbearing, uninspired lyrics. Say Anything's fans deserve better. And, more importantly, Max Bemis deserves better from himself.

| 3.2 good | Jacob Royal STAFF | January 13th 12 | Max Bemis, you may not be as strikingly crass these days, and you may censor yourself and instead make
weird noises that sound like you being carwashed, but you sure still know how to write a catchy tune or two.

| 3.5 great | PorceleinDoll | March 30th 12 | Rules of reviewing for Sputnikmusic #1 - Rating should be inversely proportional to length of artists career. Once the musician has hit the 3rd or 4th album, someone must rush to write a scathing review in order to maintain hipster-cred.rBut yeah, Max Bemis has a wife and "... Is a Real Boy" is a superior album both say a lot about this album and why it is bad. Way to tell me all I need to know about this album.

| 3.0 good | Patrick Orr | January 14th 12 | I have waited for this album for a long while. It was different than Bemis promised, and different when put in comparison to anything Say Anything has released before. It's not disappointing, but it'll hafta grow on me. The standouts to me are "Of Steel", "Overbiter", "The Stephen Hawking", "Burn A Miracle", and "Anarchy, My Dear".

| 3.0 good | snerefedsav | January 13th 12 | disappointing simply because of the hype and because one can't help but compare the album to say anything's previous work. nonetheless, the great moments outnumber the bad ones and it's still a solid release, though max bemis and co. could do so much better.

| 3.0 good | TreblinkAlive | January 6th 13 | This album manages to be disappointing but still enjoyable. Admit it Again should be forgotten, mostly due to the chorus. The fact that such a good lyricist wrote a chorus that consists of "And the crap rains down" is a pretty big let down. However there are a few tracks that that definitely deserve your attention if you're a fan of the rest of their work.

| 2.0 poor | BonRurgundy | April 8th 12 | It makes me angry how disappointing this album is. Bemis needs his angst and bitterness back, otherwise he writes shite love songs and halfassed rehashes of "Admit it!". Unless they return to form with a true masterpiece for their next album, this band are dead to me. I'm going to try my hardest to forget that this disappointing heap of crap exists.

| 2.0 poor | mastille | March 22nd 12 | If I had enjoyed this at all I'd rate it higher. Since there are good sections, albeit marred by bad editing and
too much production polishing. But Adam Lambert entertained me, and I have him at a 2, and I can't bring
myself to rate this higher than something entertaining.

| 3.0 good | Cameron Dilores | February 19th 12 | Burn A Miracle, Say Anything, Night's Song, Admit It Again, So Good, and The Stephan Hawking are all good tracks. I enjoy listening to the album and it grows on you. But I would say it's their worst major release yet.

| 2.0 poor | Maxwell | January 19th 12 | This is such a letdown. It doesn't compare to any of the previous albums and doesn't have
much to offer on its own. Each song sounds aimless and directionless; the result of a man
and his band playing it safe, attempting to rehash old ideas instead of being truly
inspired. Sucks.

| 3.0 good | Thomas Sanborn | January 14th 12 | Way too many acoustic sounding tracks, for my taste. This might as well be a Max Bemis solo album, most of the time. Overall okay, nonetheless. Nowhere near as good as their previous three albums, but the solid lyrics make up for its mediocre aspects and lack of energy some of the time. Most of the songs are still forgettable, despite the good lyrics though. Also, it doesn't sound like ...Is a Real Boy in the slightest.

| 2.0 poor | VicariousIntent | January 13th 12 | I guess I just wanted to believe that the material on the Painful Splits records was simply throw away
material...not really an indicator that Max was losing his touch. I'm so disappointed that I was wrong. I think
the Song Shop project which started as a brilliant idea has made Max a lazy songwriter, who thinks less and
less about what he's putting into each song. So this record could never be ...Is A Real Boy (which he so
desperately wanted it to be), because it simply doesn't feel as sincere. And without the sincerity, what is Say
Anything? Haven't been this disappointed by an album in a long time.
