Simpler songs with more pots and pans to throw about. Probably the best Of Montreal album, but for the wrong reasons. What's the deal? Can't they "figure it out"? Hissing fauna, are you really the destroyer, or is it Barnes' self-awareness? Is this good pop music, or pop music made "good"? Is there a difference? Isn't there a difference?
Paralytic Stalks has its hooks and lures, flaws and duds. However, when it shines, oh Lordy does it shine. This is the most intriguing album I've heard in quite some time, and it has a way of demanding your attention in unexpected multitudes. Despite the downright stupidity of moments during the second half, there are tracks here that will stick with you, and trust me; we'll all be eagerly awaiting what Of Montreal has in store for us next.
