Visions is an atmospheric work of genius. Drawing from several genres such as: IDM, Industrial, New-Age, Pop, etc., young Canadian producer/vocalist Claire Boucher has created her most focused and impassioned work to date. Its sound invites comparisons that range from the textural, drugged out electronics of Aphex Twin to the soothing calm of Enya's delicate voice, all the while sounding like it's charting unexplored territory. With skilful production techniques and blissful vocals, Visions ends up being a record that far and away exceeded my impossibly high expectations after hearing "Oblivion", and given the right amount of time to set in, it may just very well end up as one of the year's best.

Lots of style; no substance. Dream pop that favours an ingenuine atmosphere in the stead of hooks and good songwriting barely deserves the label.

An excellent album (as long as you ignore tracks 3-13). It definitely sounded like it had some potential on the first track, but everything went downhill from there. Just another fad, move along, move along. 2.2/5

Well, that was a let-down. I'd been all excited and waiting to get around to this because it was supposedly dark ambient/dreampop stuff. It was indeed, but most of it sounded like it was done by an amateur. Which it probably was, but it doesn't excuse the fact that a lot of the music sounded like basic default tools off of MixCraft or something. That said, not the whole album was bad, just 6 out of 13...which was a lot more than I expected. Some of the best, though, were more atmospheric ones like Circumambient, Colour of Moonlight (Antiochus), and Skin.

At first I was hesitating to even consider liking this album (despite the fact that I really like this kind of music), but it turned out to be a worthy investment of listening. rIf you let it grow on you, it just fucking rocks.

Grimes' output is the musical equivalent of cotton candy. It's just sugar and air, and the sugar compels you to eat the whole stick, but you never feel satisfied. Then you need to buy some deep-fried oreos to get properly sated.

Soooo I'm quite late to the party but this one just burrowed into my soul a squeenchy little bit, "Oblivion" and "Genesis" are electro dream pop bliss turned up to eleven and are so good they're nearly transcendental for fuck's sake. I've clearly got a lot o catching up to do on Grimes.

Utterly diverse and enchanting, Visions offers a peek into the mind of Claire Boucher, visionary and eclectic musician. Whereas her former works showed much promise, they were incoherent to a lesser or higher degree. It seems as thought all of her work and efforts lead to this record. I tend to compare it to a storm raging in a teacup. It tastes sweet, and then something comes up from under the surface, a beat, a line, that feels like a punch to the gut and entrances you until you are far removed from whatever place you previously found yourself in. Spectacular and overwhelming, this album is a rare gem indeed.

I loved the production on these tracks and that definitely stuck out the most for me. The
vocals are nice but not as vocals; they sound nicer than what they say or what impact they
have on the songs. I love the album as ideas but I didn't think of them much as songs. Just
as a big bunch of really nice sounds. It's one of those albums that I feel some will lover
over others. Personally, I love it but I'd like to hear these tracks flourish out a little
more rather than going the short/snappy route. It's all a great idea but I'd prefer these
songs to have more space for themselves.

Less filler and more killer than her previous works, but Grimes could still stand to shed a couple tracks on the otherwise intriguing and multifaceted Visions. "Circumambient" is a great track, and hopefully future single, while the production choices remain interesting and surprising throughout the album. I have no doubt that this album will net Claire Boucher with the widespread attention she deserves.
