Visions is an atmospheric work of genius. Drawing from several genres such as: IDM, Industrial, New-Age, Pop, etc., young Canadian producer/vocalist Claire Boucher has created her most focused and impassioned work to date. Its sound invites comparisons that range from the textural, drugged out electronics of Aphex Twin to the soothing calm of Enya's delicate voice, all the while sounding like it's charting unexplored territory. With skilful production techniques and blissful vocals, Visions ends up being a record that far and away exceeded my impossibly high expectations after hearing "Oblivion", and given the right amount of time to set in, it may just very well end up as one of the year's best.

Lots of style; no substance. Dream pop that favours an ingenuine atmosphere in the stead of hooks and good songwriting barely deserves the label.

At first I was hesitating to even consider liking this album (despite the fact that I really like this kind of music), but it turned out to be a worthy investment of listening. rIf you let it grow on you, it just fucking rocks.

An excellent album (as long as you ignore tracks 3-13). It definitely sounded like it had some potential on the first track, but everything went downhill from there. Just another fad, move along, move along. 2.2/5

If the entire album was as great (and insanely catchy) as "Genesis" and "Oblivion", this would really be something. Unfortunately, Visions has a couple obvious highlight tracks throughout and the rest is pretty forgettable.

I loved the production on these tracks and that definitely stuck out the most for me. The
vocals are nice but not as vocals; they sound nicer than what they say or what impact they
have on the songs. I love the album as ideas but I didn't think of them much as songs. Just
as a big bunch of really nice sounds. It's one of those albums that I feel some will lover
over others. Personally, I love it but I'd like to hear these tracks flourish out a little
more rather than going the short/snappy route. It's all a great idea but I'd prefer these
songs to have more space for themselves.

Well, that was a let-down. I'd been all excited and waiting to get around to this because it was supposedly dark ambient/dreampop stuff. It was indeed, but most of it sounded like it was done by an amateur. Which it probably was, but it doesn't excuse the fact that a lot of the music sounded like basic default tools off of MixCraft or something. That said, not the whole album was bad, just 6 out of 13...which was a lot more than I expected. Some of the best, though, were more atmospheric ones like Circumambient, Colour of Moonlight (Antiochus), and Skin.

Grimes' Visions is the yin to Neon Indian's Psychic Chasms' yang; Psychic Chasms is an 80's dream, but Visions is an 80's nightmare. A nightmare full of boring filler tracks

Less filler and more killer than her previous works, but Grimes could still stand to shed a couple tracks on the otherwise intriguing and multifaceted Visions. "Circumambient" is a great track, and hopefully future single, while the production choices remain interesting and surprising throughout the album. I have no doubt that this album will net Claire Boucher with the widespread attention she deserves.
