Recorded on a hospital bed, Donuts represents some of the best solo work of legendary hip-hop producer J Dilla. Released a mere three days before his passing, Donuts is 31 tracks (all but one of which are under 2 minutes long) of short, sharp and extremely fun hip-hop. Recommended for fans everything hip-hop, Donuts is undoubtedly one of the finest records in its genre to be released this decade.

This isn't even any good at all. It's amazing how influential death can be upon people's opinions. If J-Dilla had lived, this album would be a three. But, since he died, this is the next Dark Side of the Moon.

Released on his 32nd birthday and just three days before his death, J Dilla shows why he's considered to be one of the greatest producers of all time. Donuts has a relaxed atmosphere, due to it's neo soul elements and oodles of R&B samples. Great instrumental hip-hop record. 3.7/5

Donuts will put you in a good mood no matter who you are. J Dilla, bedridden with his health deteriorating, spent the last period of his life making these beats, which speaks volumes about how much he loved music. And, his passion comes out in many of these songs, resulting in an immense amount of fun and beauty. This album can remind a person why they love music. Obviously, Dilla was trying to bust out all of the tracks he possibly could because this album would be his final statement in the world, so the 31 song length is reasonable. However, there are a number of boring throwaway tracks. There is quite a bit of 5/5 material on here, but the filler brings down the rating a bit.
