| 4.0 excellent | Scott Krasman | September 22nd 11 | Combining the mellow, ambient atmosphere from the Here, Hear EPs with the gripping passion rof Searching For A Pulse/The Worth of The World, La Dispute have crafted one of the best ralbums of the year. Dreyer's vocals have substantially improved, as has the overall rsongwriting. The songs feel more structured and stable, resulting in a small dip in terms of remotion but a much enhanced listening experience. Terrific work.

| 3.0 good | Dylan B. | September 23rd 11 | How I see it, Somewhere at the Bottom of the River and the Untitled 7" succeeded because both the rinstrumentation and Jordan's vocals were dripping with passion; it was raw fury, anger, and despair in musical rform. rOn Wildlife, it seems that they wanted to balance the two, as opposed to both vocals and the band at the rforefront, and have the focus be on creating atmosphere and focusing on Jordan's fantastic storytelling. rHowever, neither the band nor Jordan is willing to step up to the plate and they both seem to be taking the rbackseat, neither ever really stealing the spotlight. Even Jordan's usually top notch poeticism seems to have rvanished. The final result doesn't even seem like La Dispute anymore; it's lifeless and dull.rI'm also quite upset by the sheer lack of DARLING

| 3.5 great | BroFro | October 14th 11 | Wildlife is very similar to Defeater's Empty Days and Sleepless Nights in the sense that both are still pretty darn good, but can just in no way live up to their predecessor. That makes both albums the biggest disappointments of the year for me.

| 4.5 superb | patrickfannon | September 23rd 11 | Nearly flawless follow-up to Somewhere At The Bottom Of The River Between Vega And Altair, La Dipsute have really found their footing on Wildlife. At turns brutal, brilliant, beautiful, and bold, the record moves at its own pace and leaves everything on the table. Dreyer's vocals have vastly improved, as has the songwriting and sonic cohesion. Absolutely fantastic.

| 3.0 good | fish CONTRIBUTOR | October 2nd 11 | It feels like La Dispute forgot they were writing music. I don't understand why people are saying that they've learnt to combine the instrumentation with the vocals well, cos as far as I can tell Jordan Dreyer is rambling on in the same, homogenous voice for the entire album (which you'd have to be really patient not to get sick of eventually) whilst the guitars dawdle in the background trying to look important by strumming some vaguely distorted chord or lick in some attempt to reflect the lyrics. Overall it feels as if they've just written the same song over and over because the guitars never really seem to do anything interesting and there's only so much you can get out of spoken word vocals. a Departure is pretty awesome and King Park too, although even that seems to sacrifice music in favour of the lyrics because the song ends before it feels like it's climaxed. This was obviously done to give effect to the lyrics but it makes the song feel incomplete, and that's this album's fundamental problem; the lyrics are given precedence over the music.

| 4.5 superb | rokknroll4 | September 22nd 11 | Maybe its just me but almost every aspect of this album reminds me of Brother, Sister which, to me, is an extremely good thing. My initial reaction wasn't as instant as with Somewhere at the Bottom... but I can see this becoming a 5 with time. Songwriting has improved immensely with more natural feeling buildups, less spastic changes, and a more clear and connected story that ties together the short stories within. Not to mention, King Park is one of the most beautiful, heart-wrenching songs I've ever heard and easily the best of La Dispute's career. If you have some deep connection to Somewhere at the Bottom... you will likely be disappointed by this album, but give it time and a fair chance and you will find that La Dispute doesn't disappoint anywhere.

| 0.0 | escalatortopurgatory | December 25th 11 | I have nothing wrong with whiny vocals, in fact I love them if properly executed. The problem with these metalcore singers is that they're generically whiny, virtually indistinguishable. Don't be fooled by their windchime solos and other pseudo-avant garde touches. This is a completely cookie cutter band.

| 5.0 classic | TheBuzzKiller | November 16th 11 | Not sure whether I like this album better then somewhere... but I'm definately glad that they went this way rather than more of the same. Some really fantastic songs on here, and somehow La Dispute has gotten even better at writing lyrics. Full of emotion, and fantastic themes. This is the best album I've heard of 2011.

| 3.5 great | YetAnotherBrick | October 23rd 11 | I was wishing and hoping and praying that La Dispute would get rid of their bad songwriting habits and fully realize their colossal potential (or at least realize it moreso), with their new album, Wildlife, and to my elation, they have done just that. Parts are repeated more often (admittedly not as much as I'd hoped for, but it's definitely still an improvement) to give the songs more unity, and parts are also given much more time to breathe, resulting in build-ups and climaxes that are genuinely affecting, and actually pretty damn epic, too. Also, those disjointed, incoherent quirks that the band's debut was loaded with are virtually gone on Wildlife. The songs on this album feel much more like songs, rather than Somewhere at the Bottom of the River's collections of vocalist and band stomping all over each other. And the lyrics are incredible, as expected. I think if the band keeps progressing at this rate, they may have a true classic in 'em. Here's to getting even better, La Dispute.

| 4.5 superb | Travis Montgomery | October 21st 11 | The PERFECT follow-up. Though maybe not perfect in the sense that they hit every note perfectly or move you with every listen, perfect in that it is a beautiful display of how a second album
should be. What initially came across as both chaotic and kinetic in "Somewhere Between..." has been focused into clarity while still retaining that rough, indie, non-mainstream filth sound.
Judging by their recent tour with Thrice (and by the fact that half that crowd came specifically for them) I see big things in La Dispute's future. Here's to hoping they don't lose what
makes them great on the long road ahead. 4.4/5

| 5.0 classic | GreyShadow | September 22nd 11 | This album made me think that this band can do no wrong. The concept is perfect and this album shows a different side to the band. It won't hit you with a plethora of hardcore songs like Damaged Goods, New Storms, The Castle Builders, etc. Instead, it will show the genius efforts of a band that is clearly quite innovative. It isn't better than their debut, but it comes scary close.

| 5.0 classic | SlowlyFallingAwake | December 10th 12 | Admitted: Wildlife seemed like a worse direction to take than was the case with its predecessor 'Somewhere along the bottom of the river...' for the simple reason that it is more catchy and less cross, fierce, impassioned. It took me at least 30 full listens to come to a new conclusion: it makes a statement, however different from SATBOTR, that deserves to be heard. Not only does La Dispute's scope enlarge (dealing with topics such as cancer, suicide and politics), Dreyer's voice seems more controlled at points whereas still retaining his stereotypical edgy 'losing-it' screams/shouts at certain intervals. It is neither better nor worse than SATBOTR (which in itself is quite the achievement), but needs an open-minded person to come to full bloom. Here, in any case, it has struck gold.

| 0.0 | andrikos | October 8th 11 | I reserve my 1,000th rating for La Dispute's long awaited album "Wildlife". I have "Somewhere..." as a 4.5 and might change it to a 5. It's that good. On the contrary, after 10+ listens "Wildlife" doesn't seem to be at the same heights. I will admit that I haven't dug in the lyrics yet and that there are some awesome songs here but I find the music not as good as their other releases. I might have to revisit my rating on this at a later stage.

Bump |
| 3.5 great | Tom | September 23rd 11 | Overlong and tedious at times (it shouldn't take until the second last song for the point to come across), it still packs a bunch and most of Dreyer's lyrics are just dying to be screamed back by a sweaty, crowded bar. The instrumentation has stepped back from the spotlight a little too far, settling for quite noodling instead of forceful riffing which really works a lot better for them. Still, I'LL SCREAM YOUR NAMES UNTIL I DIE!

I might change my rating if it grows on me.
