Februus is designed to played on good speakers. You would be doing yourself a disservice otherwise because you'd be missing half of the pieces. Although it splits at 10 tracks this feels more like 3 parts which ultimately should be digested all in one listen. In it's duration, the album maintains an ambience that keeps the songs flowing. But unlike many artists who use a small dose of ambience to segue tracks, Uneven Structure utilizes these ambiences as their own separate entities.
This in return contributes to the success of Februus-mixing half ambience and half groove metal in a beautiful manner that ultimately puts you in a trance while at the same time making you want to head-bang to it's poly-rhythmic grooves. Vocalist Matthieu Romarin also does a good job guiding the listener through the music with his versatility. His best strength kicks in with his growls during the heavier moments on the album which help build up on the intensity. Although the entire album is a treat, it's ultimate buildup to 'Finale' really showcases US's power in aces. Soaring on a three chord progression, heavily textured while maintaining groove and constant loop, until the ambience creeps in eventually completely drowning out the band and submerging the listener in abyss. US have created one of the best metal albums of the year with Februus and this is a highly recommended listen if you remotely consider yourself a fan of post or groove metal.

This blows away everything I have heard from this new wave of progressive-djent metal. I have a feeling this is what everyone was hoping for when TesseracT released One.

Album of 2011. No contest. Every other djent band is irrelevant now.

The songs on this album use pretty simple chord structures along with average melodies. The math metal polyrhytms do little to make the songs unique or interesting. The use of atmospheric electronic noise also is not enough to disguise the fact that this band is copying the exact sound from any other djent band that is currently out there. I get a sense of this is what Staind would sound like if they decided to make a djent record.

Djent with ambient undertones works way better then I would have ever expected, but some of the song writing is a little questionable, many of the songs just end abruptly which is rather jarring

These guys might not be very original or have complex songwriting, but it still sounds great due to their skillful use of ambiance and atmosphere. However, I usually only listen to Awaken/Frost/Hail in one 16 min track and skip the rest of the album, because it gets a little too formulaic at times. Still one of my favorite albums to listen to while blazed.

it delivers a finely balanced aggresive ensamble of sound. There is so much precision on show you find yourself skipping back often to previous parts for a second listen.

I have no idea why I don't like this. On paper, I should love the fucking shit out of this, but I don't for some odd reason. Something about it just feels... off. Will give more listens to try and like it.

woah daddy... I still do not understand the scope of this release and the 40+ minutes of ambience found on the second disc of this album. A great showcase of the expansion of metal that occurred in 2011 and went into the second decade of the century. But as a package, from the cover, to the djent, to the whatever else you can find here, it sits shoulder to shoulder with Amia Venera's epic release in 2010 and builds on the progress that was, in my opinion, evolving into a new scene that was influenced from the european countries.

Decent record that is dragged down by inconsistent song writing, somewhat muddy mix and weak
clean vocals. If you want to do djent with clean vocals, you better get somebody who
actually can sing (e.g., TesseracT) or some really good post-processing (e.g., Periphery).
It's a shame, really, since the harsh vocals are quite excellent.

Some of the songs are stretched out too much. i see what they're going for, but honestly,
TesseracT did it better on the "Concealing Fate" EP. This is by no means an average album,
just not as good as it could be.

Probably the best album all year. Only flaw is it needs a little less chug.
