Ah, The Fountain of Lamneth. The idea that this song is about a person's life cycle is interesting. Still, anyone with familiarity with LSD will attest that this song has a psychedelic interpretation. "(eyes) are open very wide" refers to the large pupils of an LSD taker. The "no one at the bridge" part tells of the horrors of a bad trip. "Panacea" relates the blessing of a good trip. "Have I left my life behind" refers to the feeling during a trip that the tripper has "died" and been resurrected. The beginning and end parts pertain to the "I AM THAT I AM" god-definition of "yahweh", a solipsistic experience of godhood that psychedelic-takers and religious mystics have. There is zero chance that this song has no psychedelic connotations.

Martin and Co. are fantastic here as they were on Viva La Vida. The "Enoxification" as the band worded it (working with Brian Eno), has been a great success for Coldplay. Most of these songs sound HUGE production wise and the album never suffers from it.

Candidate for their best record yet, with the added benefit of being bloody danceable of all things. Vibrant, sweeping, epic, triumphant, perhaps even a little bit transcendent. This is music to listen to while soaring over an electric Paris night sky. Even a random cameo appearance by Rihanna of all people works. Proper review on the way when this is released in the US/UK.

After hearing the EP, I was underwhelmed and disapppointed. Mylo Xyloto, however, is a fantastic Coldplay album; a near perfect fusion of the two distinct styles that marked X & Y and Viva La Vida. Coldplay have not done anything revolutionary or groundbreaking here, but then again, the band sounds so pleasant and naturally charming that it's quite hard to begrudge them for playing to their strengths.

It's a great album, a solid 8/10, but doesn't come near Viva La Vida for me. Poppy songs
like Paradise and Princess of China I didn't like too much to begin with, but they're
growing on me. Charlie Brown, Us Against The World, Hurts Like Heaven and Don't Let It Break
Your Heart are highlights and should translate really well live. Some of the tracks like Up
In Flames and U.F.O. feel a like cuts from the stripped down album MX was supposed to be,
but feel a little misplaced beside the pop mechanics of the songs they're sandwiched in.
That makes it feel more like a collection of songs than an album, despite the nice
transitions. I think Noel made a better britpop record this year.

I once said this wasn't as consistent or polished as Viva la Vida. That's true, but it ultimately doesn't matter. The highs are so incredibly soaring, the energy so vibrant, that this is perhaps Coldplay's crowning achievement. An album showcasing every side of the band, culminating in a surprisingly restrained closer. I'm still not sick of it. And if you don't get what the fuss is all about, blast "Charlie Brown" to high heavens in your car. You can thank me later.

Average to good album overall I'd say. Some truly brilliant songs as always. Not overly keen on the electro aspects in there. Songs like Princess of China and Paradise are not good in the slightest for my taste.

A great album can be decided in many ways , but the best album of all time that decision can't be made for any album! Critics name the most influential as the best album of all time, for people various reasons can constitute for naming a particular album as the best they have ever heard! For me this album is the best i have ever heard! Now before you close my review saying "this is just another coldplay fanboy read further". This album is the best i have ever heard because of 3 reasons
1) This album practically introduced me to good music!
2) This was the album i heard when i was passing the most emotional stage in my life!
3) This album is really good.
I come from a place where english music ain't that famous and what was famous never appealed to me! so i started playing games instead. Then oneday i heard every teardrop playing somewhere i instantly used shazam to see which song it was and downloaded it.
I listened to it over and over again! When the album was launched i bought it immediately and i was hooked. I listened to it for almost two months without listening to anything else! With my sister leaving home to study abroad. Me going to a completely new school where i knew no one, this album supported me to get through the day! This album basically introduced me to dark side of the moon, abbey road and ok computer i've listened to all of them over and over again, but when i returned to this album after six months i was left in tears! Thats why this the best album of all time for me! That is my opinion.
That was the emotional aspect of the album. now for the musical aspect. I've also heard all coldplay albums I have to credit the band for changes in their style with this album. They didn't change like radiohead did with Kid a but they did experiment.
Musically a lot of this album is johnny. These are my thoughts on the various tracks-
1) mylo xyloto/hurts like heaven- These two can be clubbed together mylo xyloto a startup to the guitar heavy hurts like heaven. Mylo xyloto is basically a simple tune on the xylophone. It opens into the really good johnyy inspired hurts like heaven. This song has a really great guitar riff and is basically a good song. A 4/5 from me!
2) Paradise- Everybody knows this one! Its the most watched video on youtube of coldplay! opens with the piano and guitar when heard is really good! the choros "para-para-paradise" is also good and coldplay concert anthem! A 4.5/5 from me
3)Charlie brown- This one is also a thrid successive energetic track! though chris martin got a little sloppy with the lyrics and no proper chorous inclusion this one still sounds really great! A 4/5 from me!
4) Us against the world-This is possibly the best song on the album for me! chris martin making a statement that he can still pull off a ballad with this one and the lyrics are also really good! A 5/5 from me!
5) MMIX/Every teardrop is a waterfall-These two cant really be put together but since MMIX is just a tune I put it with every teardrop.
what can i say about every teardrop this guitar heavy song with those lyrics and tune changed my perception about music i give it a 5/5.
6)Major minus-This one has jhonny written all over it! the only proper coldplay solo it wont achieve the greatness of pink floyd solos but it certainly is good! And if you ignore the guitar you'll find probably the best lyrics chris martin has witten! A 5/5 from me!
7)UFO- This one is the most underrated one. though short it is absolutely stunning! chris martin sounds awesome and the lyrics ain't bad at all! a gem a 5/5 from me!
8) princess of china-This one was probably controversial. coldplay decided to call rihanna over to their studio to help them. but can i say they really sound good together. a 4/5 from me!
9)a hopeful transmission/ Dont let it break your heart-A hopeful transmission is probably one of the best tunes i have ever heard! its really light and it relaxes you the instant you listen to it.It breaks right into dont let it break your heart. No soft starts for this one starts directly with this one guitar riffs start this one and that is not a bad thing at all! a 4.5/5 from me!
10) Up with the birds-this one starts with chris singing a slow para but this ends as a completely different song credit goes to jhonny for taking this one to another level! And preobably the best line chris has ever written!

Though this album won't have the same affect on you as it has on me but its a must listen for any rock fan out there! i recommend this one to everybody!

A really great listen. The production is phenomenal, the riffs and choruses are catchy as hell, and all of the different sounds that are heard seem to tie everything together in a great way. A great album that is some of the band's best work.

The flow of this album as a whole is really good. It's also great that the band is moving on from their softer approach... Otherwise their music would get old and repetitive rather fast. Still, their music isn't incredible; they still lack that great music feel. I may never stop waiting for that, though, and there are plenty of other bands to suit my tastes...

Coldplay are a competent band---they have to be, obviously---who have too much money on their hands, and/or too much pressure from their record company to churn out something universally appealling. Judging from this album, "Enoxification" has become simple code for "wild overproduction". The Pitchfork reviewer praised Johnny Buckland's underrated guitar playing, but how can he tell in all this sweeping communion-of-brilliant-snowflakes fuzziness? Really, Chris Walla and Alan Moulder achieved nearly the same thing on this year's Death Cab for Cutie record, and I bet Walla comes a lot cheaper. Still...there are some nice surprises. "Every Teardrop is a Waterfall" sounds a lot better here than it did as a stand-alone single. Chris Martin's vocal on "Us Against the World" is gorgeous. The lyrics are, for the most part, better than usual (I actually like the bit about the "crocodiles ticking around the world"). There's a sense---completely intentional, but still---that the songs would translate really well live. And while there's nothing as pretty as "Strawberry Swing", there are some ok hooks poking out through all that production wash. Unfortunately, the most immediate song "Princess of China", is undermined for me by Coldplay's decision to feature the only female vocalist in the world who really doesn't need the exposure, and then give her a bunch of crap lyrics full of hamhanded references to her and her hosts' exalted pop status. Not only content to dominate the charts, the implication is that's all Coldplay listens to, or cares about, anymore.

And then there is Rihanna trying to be the Princess of China. On a Coldplay Album. What is it with her that she`s featuring absolutely everything? Seriously she might catchup with lil wayne some day. The Song is horrendous.rThe Interludes and the Intro do feel somewhat pretentious and unecessary.
