Music has progressed and evolved since that time and I've clung closer to that music than the music than the music in my parents' day. Although this will probably forever be in many a person's heart regarded as the best album of all time, I am not one of those people."

"TO BE PLAYED AT MAXIMUM VOLUME". That's what the original LP-cover said. And boy, is that true. There are no words that can describe this album properly, other than it's just fantastic. Nothing less. Maybe more. The most important songs are Ziggy Stardust, Five Years and Moonage Daydream.

The concept behind this record strikes me as incredibly contrived and stupid. He cut corners from his original idea to make it more adaptable for his elaborate stage performance? Musically, however, this record is timeless, and a prodigious accomplishment of musical art.

A rock & roll celebration, as much rock & roll of the time was. Bowie establishes himself as the embodiment of what the mainstream thinks is "weird". His career, notoriously twisty-turny, will take him to glorious sonic heights as the 70's wear on. Here, he simply produced a very-good album (only revolutionary to those who never heard the records that begot it) and established a very wacky image. The singles are undeniably brilliant, particularly the bombastic charge of "Suffragette City", one of his very best. 7.5/10

#9 in My All Time Favorites List: In terms of song strength, few albums can match this. Injecting the Velvet Underground formula with the wit and melancholy that only a Brit could, Bowie effectively creates a cult that still thrives to this day.

'Ziggy Stardust' is the definitive David Bowie album, and is definitely worth a listen by anybody who is into music. The title track, "Suffragette City", "Moonage Daydream", "Starman", and "It Ain't Easy" are all incredible cuts, and the rest of the album is great as well.

There may have been technically better Bowie records; albums that were more compositionally groundbreaking, but crucially, none had the sheer cultural impact The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars enjoyed. The album catapulted Bowie into the big time, and rightly so - it's a fascinating concept executed to an enduringly accomplished standard. It witnessed the birth of the most famous incarnation of David Bowie and ensued his icon status - an accolade still standing proud and proving its influence almost 40 years on. Quite simply, The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars is one of the most important and essential rock albums ever made.

Great review of a great record. This album displays Bowie's vocal versatility; despite his deep baritone, he can alter his voice so that it resembles a thin tenor. In addition to being an underrated songwriter, I think Bowie is an underrated vocalist.

David Bowie couldn't have find a better alter ego than Ziggy Stardust. The album moves you into a different galaxy. It has wonderful ballads, fast and rocking songs and beautiful melodies. The musicianship is superb and Bowie's vocals are excellent and the amount of hits on this album is unbeatable. You really can't go wrong with this record.
