Gray's multi-instrumentalism can be intriguing at first, but he does not create much more than a sleepy adult alternative album with few standout moments.
White Ladder is the breakthrough album from an artist who already had 3 amazing, although largely unsuccessful, records. The reason why David Gray found critical and commercial acclamation with Ladder was because he managed to mix Folk and Pop with unquestionable artistry. With its first-class lyrics and melodies, Gray released this masterpiece at the right time and found the success he deserved.
David Gray's best album in my opinion.
Only a couple of tracks I am not keen on, good review too (Y).
I am off to see the mentioned tonight at Edinburgh Corn Exchange, so he'd better be good =P
Babylon - A classic, not overrated in the slightest...but I know a few people who only know David Gray for this song...There are so many more reconition worthy!
