4.5 superb | mysticrecords | May 30th 11 | This is the only logical place that incubus could have ended up. The guys are in their 30's and have probably long grown out of what they were when they were 20. I LOVE every incubus record and this is no exception. Its great from start to finish. Yes there is a lack of "hard rock", but who cares? It's incubus, and incubus has never been able to be put into a box or a genre, and that's what i love about them. I know a lot of people will be disappointed with this disc, and if you are, go listen to the foo fighters or someone who continually makes the same records over and over. To me this is Incubus at their best.

4.0 excellent | AtavanHalen | June 4th 11 | Who'd have thought, out of all the downtuned dreadlocked stoner dudes to kick it in bands
around the mid 90s, it would be Incubus that survived the longest? After perhaps
overshooting the mark somewhat with the dissapointing Light Grenades, the band have
reconvened and put their name to a mature, focused and textured album. Still sonically
interesting without sacrificing the core of what made them interesting to begin with, the
band have reinvented themselves successfully - Boyd, in particular, has rarely sounded this
good from a purely vocal perspective. This will piss off people looking for a new "Certain
Shade of Green," or even a new "Take Me To Your Leader." For those still willing to stick
with the band, however, this is easily their finest album since Morning View. Who the
fuck is someguest?

3.5 great | Jared Floryan | December 3rd 14 | Upon revisiting Incubus' seventh studio record, I've come to the realization that it's a better beast than I gave it credit for; hell, this is a much better album than the majority give it credit for. If Not Now, When? takes the softer qualities of the successful Morning View and cranks 'em up to eleven, even getting to that point where one wonders if they're listening to the same alt-rock band anymore. While the songwriting here leaves much to be desired, it's the overall instrumentals, Brandon Boyd's vocal delivery, and (to a degree) the production that make If Not Now... an enjoyable release so long as you have the patience to soak in what's presented. Feeling a light-to-decent 3.5 on the thing. Angel recommends: "Isadore," "The Original," "In the Company of Wolves," "Adolescents," and "Tomorrow's Food".

Bump |
2.5 average | SmashingPumpkin | May 6th 13 | This album is unsurprising. It's, for the most part, dull. It's painfully dull. Unfortunately for Incubus, this marks their second straight album (for me, at least) that is virtually un-listenable straight through. This and Light Grenades are tedious. This is not to say the albums are too long, they just seem that way due to an utter lack of those surprising and climactic moments that most of us look forward to. You know, those spine-tingling "omg" moments. Fuck it. Best songs were "The Original" (just because it reminded me of somebody that I know) and "In the Company of Wolves" (just because the song actually did SOMETHING).
Bump |
3.5 great | flamescranes5870 | April 6th 13 | Neither as brilliant as people who believe everything Incubus touches is gold will think, nor as appalling as most critics who think of Incubus as a hard rock band will say; not a classic, not poor, but dead in the center.

Summary: Boring
End of review
Yeah, that's what I think, this album is just boring, I played it and I'm sure my pet rabbit was about to yawn
in any moment. It doesn't sound like an Incubus record it sounds like the typical "Great band vocalist goes
solo".
Only one thing could have made it worse, hiring "The wild trapeze" mastering engineer
Without "Adolescents" I would have given a 0.0

2.5 average | MetalCharles | July 16th 11 | Well. It happend. All us Incubus fans greatest fears have been realised. Incubus have gotten even softer with their latest release "If Not Now, When?". Most of the songs sound very similar, are very boring and are just painful to listen to while imagining what the band used to be. I should point out it's not all bad, you to hear some of the band members increased musicianship, Einziger's guitar playing has improved, as has kenney's Bass playing and Boyd is singing as good as he has in previous albums, on the other hand Chris kilmore is mostly used as a piano player on this album with very little turntables being used, and Jose's drumming is painfully simple especially when you look at his amazing performances in some of Incubus' earlier records. to put it bluntly, this record is average, forgettable and annoyingly soft, the Lyrics arn't as good as earlier records either (i cringed when i heard Boyd sing the horribly cliche'd line "I once was lost, but now i'm found"). I liked the songs "Defiance", "Adolescents" and "Surface to Air" (only avalible in certain editions of the records) for what they were, but the rest of the record is Average, Forgettable and at times, annoying.
i'de say skip this record and hope the band gets the message and gets back to a bit of Funk Metal. I mean, i'm all for musical evolution and i believe that you need to grow as a musician, but this is just way too far.

4.5 superb | RoBBoFX | July 12th 11 | I've got to say... Each incubus album I have absolutely adored and this album is no exception. I think although different from their last albums, this album is so clever, artistic and mature. Which I think compliments each band member so well. Mike didn't go away to learn more about the structure of music to go back to the studio and kick off with a song like off science, if he did that he could of saved himself the tuition fees. I, like anyone else likes the taste of the hard hitting incubus but this album is just magic. Like on interviews I've watched it's true that you don't always need random fillers with the guitar and every gap in the song filled. Sometimes less is more, in this case that really is the idea and I think it works amazing. Can see Incubus getting some shiny awards for this album.

To answer the question that Incubus poses, never again.
Bump |
2.0 poor | animvl90 | May 30th 11 | Incubus have completely removed themselves from the aggressive early days and their musically interesting middle years and landed themselves in middle aged drivel. There is not one song I would choose to listen to on this album. Still, I'll probably put the album on very occasionally just in case my first impression is wrong.

3.5 great | Yazz_Flute | May 27th 11 | Very risky move by the band releasing what basically amounts to an acoustic pop album. That said, Boyd rgives it his all despite some very hit-or-miss lyrics. The rest of the band sounds bored but there are some rpleasant nuances found buried behind Boyd's romanticized vocal performances. A few of the songs are far rtoo saccharine for my tastes (Promises, Friends and Lovers) and some are just plain bad (Switchblade) but rultimately, If Not Now, When? is a well-constructed pop album. If you can get past the fact that this is an rIncubus album it's sure to be an enjoyable summer listen at the very least. Highlights: If Not Now When?, rIsadore, In the Company of Wolves, Adolescents.
