On Goblin Tyler, the Creator has the same moments of brilliance that turned him into cat nip for suburban white kids nationwide, but for every "Yonkers" there's a track like "Radicals" that makes getting through the 74 minute run time too much of a chore to warrant repeat listens as a whole. It's too bad because along with "Yonkers", songs like "Nightmare", "Tron Cat", and "Analog" make Tyler's internet hype train seem more than warranted, but as it stands Goblin is nothing but a few instances of clarity adrift in a sea of machismo and daddy issues.
Also can somebody remix "Sandwitches" so it can have the beat it fucking deserves?!

This album is an improved version of everything that Bastard was. Better beats, unique production, the only things that hold it back from being great are the lackluster, sometimes laughable lyrics, (Fish being the perfect example) and the length of the album (74 Minutes) If you love OFWGKTA, you will love this.

Am I that out of touch with what's been lurking into the mainstream lately, or is Tyler really as infamous as he makes himself out to be on this album? Is all the bitching he does here about parents blaming him for their rebellious and disobedient kids really...valid? Because according to what I've seen and read, I don't think it is. And that, in turn, makes a large chunk of this album extremely off-putting and vaguely...irritating. If all the whining is valid though, this album is still pretty lame. Tyler only seems to create a good flow when he's focusing on wordplay ("Yonkers" and "Tron Cat" being the two best examples), and a lot of times, those words he's playing with deal with stupid, trite, uninteresting bullshit. He tries so hard to pull off that consciously-trying-to-shock-but-justifying-it-by-calling-it-"dark humor" persona, but he does it so awkwardly and so unsubtly, that a lot of times, his words seem to fall to the ground before he even says them. He gets so angry at all these people who supposedly "take him too seriously," but seems to take that sentiment more seriously than anything else he says on the album. Honestly, if it wasn't for "Yonkers" and "Tron Cat," this would be a 2, maybe even lower. With Goblin, Tyler just tries way too hard.

in the 1990s, rap became something more than it was in the 80s. at the same time, it became more serious and "vulgar"or "shocking". there were groups of people who resented it and tried to destroy it (much like heavy metal in the 80s). soon after, the rabble died down and people began to accept the vulgarity of the lyrics and becamo desensitised (SP?) to it. this cycle repeated itself in the early 2000s with people like eminem taking the lyrical content to a whole new level of obscenity. again the soccer moms of the nation spoke out against it then eventually shut up. now with tyler che creator talking about raping pregnant people and brutally assassinating bruno mars, i have a feeling that the shitstorm is about to come back stronger than before. good album though

yes its bloated and yes there are parts you can fast forward, but every song at one point or another grabs you. this album is exactly like tyler himself, imperfect. but thats why i love it so much. every beat is fantastic.

I was abitt disappointed with this on my first few listens, but after letting it sink in and listening to it many more times it's grow on me a lot. I still wish Tyler had just cut out a few tracks (Fish, Bitch Suck Dick, Radicals, Window) and this album would have been his second masterpiece. Let's hope he uses some quality control on "Wolf".

A vast majority of the songs are above average and some are even AMAZING. I feel as though there is less filler than Bastard its just a lot longer.

You know an album is great if you really get into the music. This album is to dark for some and for others the beats are to different or weird, but I really love almost everything about this album. After listening to it many times, you can really know how Tyler felt as he was recording this. Obviously his track Yonkers might be his strongest track here but just about the whole album is great. The only songs I don't like to much is Transylvania and Bitch Suck Dick. There was a lot more diversity in Bastard and that's why I like it more than Goblin, but here in this album, there is more of a focused telling of a story and that's why its interesting. The gruesome lyrics and topics most of the songs cover may turn people off immediately, but the songs like She, Her, Window, the intro track Goblin and the ending track Golden are great examples of how great Tyler is at description and storytelling. I just like the feel of this whole album and how it comes together. I just wish Tyler censored himself a bit more because I catch myself reciting the lyrics to Fish and Radicals, and their not the best lyrics to be saying out loud, but fuck it.

I don't like the label of "average", but I don't like the idea of calling this "great" either. So I'll say it's a 3.3! After a few more spins, despite my lack of veteranship in the field of hip-hop, this is truly something unique. Almost "progressive" rap in my eyes. Like the soundtrack to a stream of consciousness ladden with disdain and horror. A spectacle of sorts. You'll never know what's around the next corner.

An inconsistent mix of great tracks, forgettable songs, and horribly failed experiments. When it's good, it's phenomenal--see the word-work on "Tron Cat," but songs such as "Radicals" prevent this from being a great album, which is a shame, because if Tyler could trim the fat and keep the "Yonkers" he'd make one hell of an album.

Where to begin? Goblin is so utterly flawed it is not even worth getting in to (plus these issues have all been thoroughly covered within the numerous reviews). It does, though, retain some sort of compelling, bizarre quality that is hard to ignore. It is just insightful and honest enough to not be completely worthless.

Same gripes as everyone else: too long (8 minute long tracks, really?), "filler"-type tracks. There's much more good than bad on here, though. If the whole album played like Goblin, Yonkers, Transylvania and Tron Cat it could easily push a 4.5. The two bonus tracks (Burger and Steak Sauce) are two of the best on the record.

Way too long, but that is fine on his good songs, but it's bad on his "less good" songs. Unsure if this is an improvement on Bastard. Definantly equal to at least.
