Woah look at this cover: this sure is thrash. Ain't nothing revolutionary, but competently composed, kinda catchy, and head-banging to a certain degree.

Havok is one of the few bands that prove that thrash metal is not dead yet. They were able to combine all of the best elements of classic thrash. We have some more aggresive tunes some punkish ones and a lot of great harmonized guitars. Vocals are raw and aggresive and the production perfectly balances all of the instruments, even the bass guitar which actually sometimes breaks through and gives songs another layer of sound.

"Prepare For Attack" starts up with some stop-and-go tempo with the snare drum and guitar riff and builds up into a headbangable song, and while still lacking in originality, makes for a more promising record than their mild-mannered debut, and it delivers in spades, utilizing the best of older thrash metal before them with a more technical spin while throwing in some hardcore (particularly the vocal department). "Fatal Intervention" has some of the best riffs and a memorable chorus, "Covering Fire" is jam packed with finesse drumming of newcomer Pete Webber and shows the world why he's a leading man in the metal drummer world. "Scumbag In Disguise" is perhaps the most old school tune here, and it may be the best one with its highlight chorus and headbanging pace, and "No Amnesty" is third wave thrash worship of the best kind. "The Cleric" is too generic for enjoyment, but the album is lacking in filler, there's a fair amount of variety in each tune, and may be the band's best album and the best album of the revival wave of thrash which might not be saying a lot with the 3.5 rating.

Another very strong thrash record. Production is more audible than on the band's debut but the formula is much the same, maybe a couple of songs demonstrate more complex musicianship but the rest is no-frills thrash pretty much. Highlights: "No Amnesty" and "D.O.A.".

I gotta say, this combobulation of old school thrash and technical influences is creating one of the more unusual listens i've partaken in the broad field of thrash. While it makes its mark appropriately in some areas, there are quite a few where this album just makes little to no sense, in the sense of course that that's what Havok was going for. I'll stand alone on this one, and go ahead and say "Burn" was the better album by this band. But even it suffers from similar problems. Just not quite as badly.
