"Terrifyer" is another sure shot of Pig Destroyer's almost perfect discography. The somberness mixed with the aggressiveness and moments that mix it with Melodic Hardcore makes this record one of the best and most consistent of the genre.r

There's always something cathartic about the release of anger, something so human, so relatable, and yet still so foreign. We've all been angry, we've all felt its effects. It's dissociative, it's illogical, it's the break of rationality. Negative feelings seep in all the time, and drip, drip away into the trashbin we call self control, normally emptied out with will power so as to not cause issue. Maybe sometimes it spills, but it's never too much to clean up. But when depression, obsession, and desperation make you forget to take out the trash, those feelings can pile up, and pile up, and pile up. Cramming them down, kicking them apart, and crushing them into bits to stay bottled inside only works for so long. It begins to stink, and rot, and fester with worms, coated by the vomit of nights drinking alone to numb the pain. Tonight you have to throw away more of the demented feelings in the back of your head, and there simply isn't any room left.
This is the sound of rage personified.

Terrifyer is my favourite grindcore album ever recorded. The guitar riffs are astounding, the production is absolutely perfect, and best of all, there's real emotion in these songs-- you can feel the anger seething in every second. The sample work is fantastic too. The record's only flaw, and the reason it's a 4.5 and not a 5, is that the second half drags. Regardless, Terrifyer is a must-hear record for anyone remotely interested in grindcore, metal, or just emotional, angry music.

(4/12/18): Terrifyer has definitely stood the test of time well after nearly 14 years. Alongside the preceding album, Prowler in the Yard, it established Pig Destroyer as a household name within the grind sphere - and for great reason. The Alexandria-based metal band's third album is packed with the brisk pacing that's come naturally to the core sound, but it's also very dense structurally speaking and J.R. Hayes' lyrics can send chills down the spine in a heartbeat. Compared to the previous record, Terrifyer's production is noticeably sharper and less muddy as well. If you ask me, this release is almost as good as what came before it... almost.
