Old Raves End is a breathtaking marvel, and creates atmospheres that move, musical landscapes that soar. Despite being a bit redundant in parts, the album as a whole is a testament to how illustrative the genre of dubstep can truly be.
Undulating, pourous synths wash gently, ebbing and flowing, atop softly picked, subued, reverberating guitar lines. Patient, mellow flashes of bass and swells of volume permeate the record, as do the ghostly, ethereal vocal samples that round out the mix. This album is incredibly soothing, and one of the prettiest of 2011.
If there was ever a genre called "Post-dubstep".. this would be it. By that I mean post rock mixed with dubstep. The song "Flikr of ur Eyes" is the best example of this. Trippy beats and topnotch production blended with the beauty and emotion filled atmosphere of post rock. If Massive Attack and This Will Destroy You collaborated, it would sound like this. Highly recommended.
