Simply the presence of Achilles Last Stand on this album nearly merits it a 5....by far and away the best 10 minutes of art that Zeppelin has ever composed

None of the songs are really that good, and none are that bad either, IMO.

Though it's certainly not a bad album. It just lacks the energy and creativity that their albums had beforehand.
But it's certainly not bad to listen to. Plant really does a good job on vocals, Jones is as always awesome, but
the main highlights are definitely Page and Bonham, who kick a** on Achilles Last Stand.

Presence is a rather disappointing affair when compared to the greatness of its predecessor. While it does possess a fine opener/closer combo in "Achilles Last Stand" and "Tea for One", " For Your Life", "Candy Store Rock" and "Hots for Nowhere" just flat-out suck. Also, as a whole, the album reflects a worn out band that no longer had the level of inspiration that got them through their first 6 records. Recommended only for diehard fans.

This is where the downhill slide begins. Despite classics like 'Achilles Last Stand' and 'Tea For One', "Presence" can't balance out the number of average songs that can be found on here.

This album is often considered Zeppelin's worst, but it is far from that. Any album that has an epic like "Achilles Last Stand" is worth paying attention to.

It's easy to see why so many Zeppelin fans may have been a little confused about PRESENCE. First, there's the strange artwork with that almost omnipresent "Object" in every photo. Then you have these three jaunty, giddy and somewhat uncharacteristic songs ("Royal Orleans", "Candy Store Rock" and the modern swing of "Hots On for Nowhere") sitting alongside an unimpeachable towering epic ("Achilles"), a classic hard blues number ("Nobody's Fault But Mine"), an underrated groove heavy song with Plant chattering about "c-c-cocaine" ("For Your Life") and a depressive take on "Since I've Been Loving You" ("Tea For One"). It's an odd collection of songs that becomes more impressive upon each listen and isn't nearly as overplayed as the rest of their catalog. It's the dark horse of their catalog and also the one I find myself admiring more as the years march on.

Achilles Last Stand is one of the best songs Led Zeppelin have ever done in their career and Nobody's Fault But Mine is also a notable listen, but apart from them, there's nothing really else that sticks out. The guitar work is great but most of Bonham's drumming and Plant's vocals seem a bit dreary and lifeless apart from those two songs.

I really appreciate the little short tracks on here. They're really fun, have great riffs, are keep the album from being too dense. Oh, and "For Your Life" is perfect. The fact the albums shifts between short fun songs and long epic songs is why I value it as so strong. It makes the album a roller coaster of dynamics without overindulging too much. The worst song on here, "Nobody's Fault but Mine", is still a thrilling epic that helps hold it all together. The only albums that are more solid than this are Physical Graffiti and Houses of the Holy. Well at least I think so...

This is easily the stalest thing Led Zeppelin ever did. It's sort of a weird regression in that it returned to the sound of Led Zeppelin I while ditching the acoustic/folk influences. Robert Plant's voice is rather strained sounding because he was recovering from a car accident.
Achilles Last Stand and Nobody's Fault But Mine are great. I also have a soft spot for Candy Store Rock. But everything else is mediocre, especially Tea For One which is a blatant rehash of Since I've Been Loving You.

Great album yet again I was a little bit too hasty in my review. Ah well there it is. The last good zeppelin album. Plants lyrics always ruined the songs a bit for me. Thats just me though

Led Zeppelin's mediocre was still better than everyone else's best. Jimmy Page said it best. That was the 70s. Now we know about Page's plagiarism. For those who loved Led Zeppelin, it was the ultimate betrayal. For many, their love turned into hate, respite for one of the greatest hard rock bands of all time. In 2011, the song remains the same, but the memory of Led Zeppelin is tarnished.
