I think the sound of this album is a great mix of math rock and black metal, the only reason it has gathered hate is because metal heads on this site underrate anything that someone on youtube labelled hipster, if this had a gory album cover and a spiky logo you guys would be eating this up.

Unsatisfied with taking Brooklyn, those goddamn greedy hipsters had to go ahead and try to gentrify black metal. There's some sweet riffs and some nice moments, but I'm guessing in a few years this will become utterly consumed by the haptic void.

It's not *that* bad, although formulaic, too long, and their experimentations are bwergf. I headbanged at some points, no shit. Not very interesting in the grand scheme of black metal, though.

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Liturgy's Aesthetica. The black metal is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical tremolo picking physics most of the burst beats will go over a typical viewer’s head. There’s also Hendrix's romantic outlook, which is deftly woven into his shrieking- his personal philosophy draws heavily from Who's pinball wizard, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these lyrics, to realise that they’re not just kvlt- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Liturgy truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn’t appreciate, for instance, the humour in Hendrix existential catchphrase “Transcendental Black Metal Manifesto” which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev’s Russian epic Fathers and Sons. I’m smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as HHH’s genius wit unfolds itself on their headphones. What fools.. how I pity them. 😂

The album that separates the men from the boys. The boys who denounce this album are the same boys who sit in their mothers' basement all day weeding through 5th rate death/thrash albums pretending there's a difference between said albums. These kids, like the plebeians they are, use words such as "disjointed/random", "meaningless/pointless" and even "ironic/hipster", hah, to refer to this type of metal. Their arguments against this album are flat out untruthful, shallow or VERY hypocritical. For instance, "there is little to no variation", according to some oblivious guy who praises Transilvanian Hunger to death. This album, in terms of aesthetics, harmony and linear progression, is objectively superior to most metal, but metalheads don't like it because the logo isn't bloody enough.

in retrospect, Aesthethica is an interesting math rock/black metal hybrid that was weighted down more by the combination of its scatter-brained structuring and accompanying pretentious manifesto than the music itself. While this isn't a fantastic record, it is a successful blending of otherwise opposing genres that, at the time, had never really been done before.
