all of you calling this an improvement must be retarded. this is a step-up in the way that eating a turd is a step-up from eating decomposing flesh. don't give this shit any sympathy, it sucks and you know it as well as I do. this is probably the worst album so far, cause it doesn't even have a song as funny as sunday bacon, which was the funniest song I've heard since weird al's "eat it".

HUGE step up from The Respect Issue and a small improvement from Felony (I liked that CD). The dubstep elements are awesome, and the band seems to actually be finding a signature sound that is almost nu-metal influenced (in a good way surprisingly). I hate Joey Sturgis, but this is probably his best sounding work. "4 Poisons 3 Words" and "Last Words To Rose" are a few of the stand out tracks.

Surprisingly interesting output by a band that reached it's bottom with their latest record 'Felony'. On the one hand 'Speaker Of The Dead' is an incredibly brutal and heavy ride with some outstanding tracks like 4 Poisons 3 Words, Lights Bring Salvation and their two singles. And on the other hand it features weak, replaceable material like Area 64-66 or My Name Is Thanos and shows a kind of undeniable redundancy in breakdowns and overall musicianship after examining the whole length and consistency of the record in detail. In terms of production, it's easily Sturgis' best work ever. The bass lines are perfectly audible, dubstep elements, electronic parts and samples fit nicely and the general groove knows how to be hypnotizing and tight at once. All in all not really an excellent record, but a great one for Palmeri & Sons. Their third best, placing shortly after 'The Respect Issue'. 3.8

Ah, yes. Emmure, virtually hated in the metal community for their repetitive un-original bland metalcore, this their fourth full length carrys on with the bland/repetitive style.
Okay, I'm never been a Emmure fan at all- I'm a fan of metalcore but Emmure were just to bland.
Onto the album!
So Emmure have you still carried on with your terrible vocal garbage with added rap elements, boring simple drumming, chugging, chugging breakdowns & don't forgot some of the worst lyrics I have read?

With 16 tracks that pretty much sound the same I'm now struggling to carry on listening to this ***ing garbage, I would be rather force fed to listen to Katy Perry, maybe I'm over-reacting but how can these guys have any fans left?
The first song i heard on this was "Demons With Ryu" on ITunes- maybe they might have gone into the studio and thought "Let's try to make something creative and slightly more original" yeah, that didn't happen
Then I saw the video for "Solar Flare Homicide" oh wow, how unexpected- it sounds the same as any other song this joke of band continue to make. I could go through each track and say why they're rubbish or why they're half-decent but I can't arsed...The truth is I really really struggled to find something slightly good about the album.
I'll give my verdict on the instrumention/lyrics-
Vocals- shifts between growling/screaming/spoken word style rap elements. Terrible, vocals garbage. Get a new job, Frankie Palmeri.
Guitars- Chugging, chugging, gies what?! more ***ing chugging. as I've said, bland/repetitive/sounds very familiar to every other song Emmure have done.
Drumming- The only really good thing I have to say is the drumming, better but even the drumming becomes repetitive- obviously not a talented drummer trying he's hardest to sound professional.
Lyrics- My words can't describe how much they suck...No refrences to the song titles at all, make no sense, blatant that they wrote 'em in around five minutes.
So, if you're familiar with Emmure and want to see how this album sounds like, easy just go through their back catolouge.

For quite a while there, Emmure had me convinced that they've moved on from 'Felony' and are certainly out to do bigger things. This was until my second play of 'Speaker of the Dead' where I realized that all the tracks on the album are exactly the same, containing everything we come to expect from an Emmure album. Most of the songs are filled with breakdowns that sound almost exactly alike and never diverge away from that simple song structure. It would be a pretty different story if each breakdown stood out and actually offered up something, but they remain simple and could only really be used for a live show. Frankie's vocals show no improvement at all, as he continues to bounce between the rap style talking and scratchy high screams we really never get offered anything too different. I really don't have a reason for why I looked forward to this album, but it's a perfect solution for angrier moments in my life. Don't search for anything beyond what you know about Emmure, because you won't find it here.

Whilst being a pretty large improvement, especially by adding dubstep/electronic moments in their music, lyrics about sucking dick are still as uninspired as ever. This is a step in the right direction for them though.

It's interesting, so to speak. It's not unique at all, but it's interesting. This might be good for those times you feel angry enough to throw really heavy and expensive objects at the wall, but nothing else really. Expect redundant chuggery.

No originality, no effort, no redeeming qualities. People give St. Anger shit, but at least it wasn't the same fucking album as the last two or three Metallica did. I hereby nominate Emmure as the Worst Band in the World, and give Speaker of the Dead the worst album of 2011, if not all time. Fuck these guys.

Wow, aside from taking out some of the interesting vocal choices of felony, and having a higher production value, not much has changed from felony.rI found the album boring two songs in and ended up deleting all but six tracks to extract good. So with the obvious THEY CHUG TO MUCH being known to us all by now, the good is, there are a select few songs on the album that if it was just them, I would most likely give it an average, because there are moments on here were I just...feel the fucking power...but as an overall album, they are muddled down under the cursed chug chug guitar work and simplistic lyrics. It should be noted, there are songs that are about 4 minutes that have about two sentences of lyrics. A friend of mine deemed it "Haiku metal"

This is an improvement on their other work. They surprisingly pulled off the electronic elements well, and Demons With Ryu, Children Of Cybertron (For an intro track, it's alright) and Solar Flare Homicide are decent.rOtherwise, everything about this album is horrible. Too many breakdowns, awful lyrics, awful songwriting and below average musicianship.

As much as were all probably a bit hard on Emmure on here, the idea that this is an improvement on their previous albums doesn't make much sense in my mind. Like Felony this albums lacks any substance and is the same incoherent mess of breakdowns and one note riffs that seem to characterise Emmure's sound. The lyrics are no better and simply add to the stupidity of the whole thing. Unfortunately Emmure show no signs of changing any time soon
