1.5 very poor | OutOfMyself | January 18th 11 | Another bland, uninspired, and barely listenable release by Architects. At least they're consistent.

3.0 good | Spec | January 21st 11 | Every Architects album release sounds different than the ones that came before it and "The Here and Now" ris no exception. The lyrics and vocals are still very heartfelt but the band's sound has lost a lot of the renergy shown on their previous release, "Hollow Crown." It's true the album is a grower but up to the bands rusual standards, it's rather disappointing.

3.5 great | Willex | August 21st 11 | When a band as balls-out heavy as Hollow Crown-era Architects says their next album "will sound like Paramore", take it with a pinch of salt. This is far removed from a pop-punk album, and is in fact reminiscent of Alexisonfire in the songwriting and riff-to-chorus ratio. Nor is it a bad album (like Paramore comparisons suggest), it's actually a very solid melodic post-hardcore album.
Opener "Day In Day Out" has hooks the size of Saturn's rings and gets the party started early. It's followed by a lacklustre "Learn to Live", which, despite the Radio 1 leanings, has another huge chorus. "Delete:Rewind" and "BTN" are indications that Architects still love to play fast, pissed-off music, but the writing has evolved and improved tenfold. "An Open Letter To Myself" and "Heartburn" are the only real downsides of the album, Architects are not a ballad band and by the looks of this, they never will recapture the brilliance of the song "Hollow Crown". The guest vocals of Mr. Greg Puciato of The Dillinger Escape Plan on "Stay Young Forever" and poignant closer "Year In Year Out" are brilliant, providing a voice so associated with mathcore it keeps Architects's influences proudly on their sleeve.
Personally I love this album, older Architects fans seem to really dislike it though. It seems to have expanded and alienated their fanbase all at once.

0.0 | Drunk | January 26th 11 | The album was definitely a shock for fans of the band and took me a while to get into. TBH, at first I really didn't like it. It wasn't until a few listens later that I concentrated on the lyrics and realized that Sam is just as sincere as he's always been. The album is packed full of emotion and is sure to bring that out in whoever is listening to it.

2.0 poor | BlackTemplarofAutism | September 9th 20 | A lackluster vocal performance from a vocalist that hadnt mustered his full potential yet, generic but alright writing and a lazy mix without punch combine to make an album i just cant get into.

3.0 good | SputnikSweetheart | January 7th 13 | Change gone wrong. Few solid songs overshadowed by many weak others.rThe fact that the band immediately released a follow-up that went back to their previous sound stands as proof of this. I liked the softer sound this album tried to take but unfortunately it ended up with a bad overall result.

0.0 | | May 24th 12 | Winding down for a more calm and melodic approach from their previous effort, Architects have created a somewhat underwhelming effort compared to their previous album, however this isn't much of an issue, as with strong songwriting, powerful lyricism and strong instrumentation, Architects have still put forth a worthwhile album that keeps up and above the standards of the genre, but not up to their personal level.

3.0 good | LightspeedJack | April 20th 12 | A disappointing follow up to Hollow Crown, which was fantastic, but still isn't bad and has some killer tracks (Learn To Live, Year In Year Out). Hopefully Architects return to their heavy sound.

3.5 great | ChuckyTruant | December 30th 11 | Yes its not as heavy or techy but it's much more melodic and emotional than their previous work. Doesn't beat Hollow Crown but is a solid release. Good album.

1.5 very poor | 05McDonaldT | July 8th 11 | They've become a bland pop metalcore band, which is a shame because hollow crown was great
Bump |
3.0 good | Skillbinator | July 8th 11 | Wasn't bad, a fairly high 3. But not anywhere near the quality of their other albums.

2.0 poor | Jones | June 29th 11 | Very disappointing, considering how good Hollow Crown was. I'm all for change in a band, but not when it's as bland and uninspiring as this.

2.0 poor | Dodenakker | March 18th 11 | This album isn't any good in my eyes. I find it's plain boring. It's a shame really.

1.5 very poor | pjschloss | February 11th 11 | Thoroughly disappointed and utterly confused as to why Architects would develop in this way after releasing
what is close to a hardcore masterpiece with "Hollow Crown". The only decent song on this album is the
opening piece "Day In Day Out" and it was still bad when I listened to it with headphones in and had to turn
it louder even after the drums and vocals kicked in. Song writing, production, and general idea on this
album results in many disgruntled and angry fans. And just for the record, "Hollow Crown" may not have
necessarily been a masterpiece, but compared to "The Here and Now" it's not hard to consider any other
album a masterpiece...

3.5 great | IAmKickass | January 26th 11 | Though I expected a completely different album, I can in no way say that I am dissapointed with the change in sound this band has gone through. The album manages to be heavy and catchy at the same time, proving that this is a band to be reckoned with in the genre. Now, if only every song didn't sound the same, we might have a slightly better rating here, but it's a great album for what it is.

0.0 | Motiv3 | January 21st 11 | Im all for change in a band's sound even if it becomes more streamlined and mainstream. A great example of this is DEP's latest which actually turns out to be a success and imo their best and most complete work. This change of sound however from Architects absolutely fails not only to improve the sound of the band in general but fails to succeed in what it wants to achieve. In essence, this album sounds like Architects trying to be a post-hardcore band, rather than a band actually becoming one.
This new direction definitely does not suit this band one bit and although their old technical metal style was not particularly breath-taking, they would definitely be better off reinventing that sound rather than trying to take on a completely new sound which does not work for them. A very bad album from a band who showed some great potential on Nightmares.

3.0 good | snerefedsav | January 20th 11 | you bet your ass this is disappointing. but it's undeserving of all the hate. album is a grower and i predict it will eventually be a 3.5, but i'm still disappointed they went from architects to architectsonfire
Bump |
2.5 average | ebay | January 19th 11 | Architects have stripped away their technical sound for something much more mainstream and riff-laden. Although the move isn't a failure by any means, "The Here and Now" will be viewed as a severe disappointment by the fans of any of their previous work. I think after years of touring with Bring Me The Horizon, Architects has finally found the formula to the heart of a fourteen year old scene girl.
