3.5 great | theUWFBOY | February 16th 11 | The first few tracks aren't shining that bright, but the later tracks are really good, especially tracks like "Behind The Scenes" or "The View From Here"

2.5 average | pauldrakedsd | February 15th 11 | The problem with Close To Home is they really just try too hard. This is another A Day To Remember wanna be, and they aren't being much. It is really inconsistent, i was hoping for a good real release from these guys, but i guess that dream was shot down, but crappy breakdowns...Close To Home, go all the way home please. Not worth buying...

2.5 average | IAmKickass | February 11th 11 | 'Let It Be Known' was a big leap for Close to Home's career, it featured catchy tracks that
did a great job at balancing all the things we enjoy in the post-hardcore genre. Here we
are, two years later with 'Never Back Down', a more pop-punk approach to their sound and a
lot less interesting than what I thought it would be. Moving more into a generic sound than
further away from it, this was one of the biggest downfalls of the album. Close to Home
tends to do a good job at keeping all the elements in place, breakdowns show up just enough
and some of the songs feature great hooks, but all good things come to an end. Most of the
breakdowns feel forced and repetitive, while most of the songs just seem to fall flat in
their familiarity. It's easily noticeable that Close to Home was keeping it safe and
sticking to what they know genre fans will like, which actually turns around to be a bad
thing to people like me who search for a reason to be different. While I'm one of those
fans, I can't find a place to really feel for this album. While it has it's moments and the
occasional shine of greatness, it feels lazy and safe. If you want to create a safe genre
album that's actually good, try to stand out in those breakdowns, and try to make those
choruses bigger and noticeable. The worst part here is that this was a band with potential,
and while this album may not be the end of a career, it definitely makes me hope for bigger
and better things in the future to wash this album away.
