Just in case you weren't aware, Kanye West is bat shit insane. I mean that in the best way possible. I really do. What makes My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy so good is that it perfectly captures all sides of West's personality, the good and the bad, to a fucking tee. It's huge, egotistical, schizophrenic yet also intimate, heartbreaking, and humorous. Sure there are moments where it doesn't quite work out, but when Kanye is on his game, which is 90 percent of the album, the mother fucker reinvents not only mainstream hip-hop but the wheel as well.

after one listen of this, it's easy to see the reason why so many people hate kanye west; he is ridiculously talented and versatile. this record is all sorts of things that i will now enumerate: classic, massive, legendary, original and maniacally beautiful (oh and dark and twisted and fantastic). damn, i don't even know what else to say. i'm thoroughly glad i've never dissed mr. west in my life because i would be choking down those words now. every beat is better than the last. every verse kicks you in the face and makes you shut the fuck up and listen (atleast until you can jam along, anyway). there is nothing on this album that was implanted as 'just filler' in order to make the tracks come up to 3:00. wow, just... wow.

Let's not lose our fucking heads here. This is a solid art pop album and nothing more - the kind that could have only been made by somebody with more money, ego and connections than they know what to do with. In fact, it's honestly not all that different from Linkin Park's last album, if you take out all the atomic references and stupid accents. At least Linkin Park tried to get people into Public Enemy and Mario Savio - Kanye isn't doing shit here except blowing himself off in the name of artistic self-discovery.
Sure, there are some awesome moments here. "Devil in a New Dress" sounds like a vintage College Dropout track. "All of the Lights" aims to be the most epic club banger of all-time, and minus a clunky lead vocal from Fergie, pretty much succeeds. "Gorgeous" just straight-up rocks, and Raekwon ends up scoring the best verse of the album. Lyrically though, it's just more of the same shit Kanye has been going on about since Late Registration. Maybe I could overlook the lyrical stagnation if the music was really that good, but it isn't.

No longer is he relying on catchy hooks and poppy auto-tuned lyrics. He's actually focusing on what really counts, the passion behind the music. As much as I want to hate 'My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy,' for the ridiculous name, Kanye's recent antics, and the sheer stupidity of the lyrics, I just can't bring myself to hate it. 2010 didn't see much in the way of rap, so to see the best yet album from the likes of Kanye was much needed. The quality of the songs is great, with almost all of the tracks being immensely likable, and though the lyrics are Kanye at his most profane, there are moments when he comes to terms with himself (well, kind of).

It is undeniable that MBDTF contains amazing pieces of musicianship, but the album as a whole feels overblown and ridiculous, which I guess summarizes the man Kanye West. The lyrics in many of the songs are completely unnecessary and often just down right stupid, an aspect that ruins some of the songs (case in point would be "Runaway"). Although I am usually not one to be offended by lyrics, after 45 minutes it gets pretty exhausting listening to songs about pussies and fucking and bitches. I can't take this album seriously, although much of the music behind the lyrics makes me want to.

Kanye West has made an amazing album, worthy of the praise it's received and more. I am of course referring to his debut The College Dropout, which follows the unofficial hip-hop guideline of therefore being his best album. As always, West's unbelievable ego is very apparent on My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, but this time it manifests itself through overly long songs and now un-modified singing, mainly in the second half. The album starts out good: "Dark Fantasy" and "Gorgeous" are both good opening tracks, even if Kanye lacks whatever fire he used to have. "Power" is fantastic, even if it's outdone by the GOOD Friday remix. "All of the Lights" sports the best beat here and Rihanna's guest spot is - as usual - a welcome highlight, and "Monster" is better than anything from 808s and Heartbreak, despite Nicki Minaj's annoying performance. It's here where the problems - and the singing - start. "So Appalled" has uninspired performances from everyone involved. "Devil in a New Dress" sounds like a College Dropout b-side, with the most mundane beat here. "Runaway" sports the most annoying use of piano I've ever heard, and ends with 3 minutes of pointless noise. "Blame Game" basically wastes the usually-awesome guest John Legend before ending with pointless Chris Rock banter. Why it took people six years and the wrong album to realize West's quality as an artist is beyond me, but this is Merriweather Post Pavilion once more and somebody forgot to spike my drink - again.

The lyrics, the beats, the actual instruments in the background all help this album breathe new life into the sorry, stale genre that is rap today. Obnoxious, chauvinistic, crude, arrogant, presumptuous, egotistical - they are all words pertaining to Kanye West's persona, but let's give credit where it's due: he's a god damn genius. Despite whatever your perspective of the man is, we can't deny that he's a marketing aficionado. Whether he's sampling Daft Punk's well-known, infectious electronica anthem 'Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger' or collaborating with any number of artists, he's done his part in making himself relevant in pop culture and has become the subject of much controversy (his proclamation of being the 'new Michael Jackson' and his recent notorious spiel at the Video Music Awards Ceremony during which he publicly embarrassed Taylor Swift.) Up until this point, his personality has been swiftly conveyed through his albums in such an in-your-face manner that it's off-putting and difficult to enjoy the music of a man who's so clearly riding a wave of vanity all the way to the top of the charts. However, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is a statement - something that could only derive from the psyche of someone as sporadic and odd as Kanye; distinguishing itself from anything the boisterous star has done in the past, while still feeling comfortable enough to retain old fans.

Guess who's back... Kanye West (no Shady still isn't), after two really shitty albums, Mr. West is back with a great album, probably at the same level as College Dropout (tough really different), but I'll need some time to decide if I upgrade to a 4. Great sampling, good sound (I prayed he would let autotune go a bit), great lyrics (even if I think they're kind of burried by the sound, wich isn't the ideal for "hip hop"). Overall, totally worth getting this album.

So its alright to listen to Kanye now? Like a month ago Kanye wasn't nearly as well received as he is now that his latest is out. Did he disprove all the haters? Maybe. My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is his best work to date, but is far from perfect. The hype train seems to be rolling full steam for this, but while this is an enjoyable listen and a grower I can't really see this as the best hip hop album of the year. New CuDi has this beat.

What is left to say about Kanye West's magnum opus? How many times can I state that it's an emotional thrill ride of an album without it becoming cliche? Either way with this album Kanye pulled out all of his tricks, taking in production ideas from all his previous albums; the soul samples of The College Dropout, the orchestration of Late Registration, the straight up hip-hop of Graduation and the vocoders and electronics of 808s, he wraps up all his production into one high flying package. On the other side of the album he finally masters his flow and lyricism between the insanely clever and bragadocious punchlines of POWER and the emotional conflict and near schizophrenia of Blame Game Kanye finally manages to show his skill all around, solidifying him as a hip-hop legend. So to sum this up we'll go back to the word schizophrenia, because this album is filled with it, it's a man trying to hold on to his ego without hurting everyone around him but not having the slightest clue how to. It's a hip-hop classic to be remembered for years to come.

The first hip hop album I really got into. I remember the moments when 'Power' 'Runaway' we released to the public and from the moment I heard them I thought they were astonishing, a world of ideas in a pop song. After seeing the immense acclaim of this album that usually comes once a decade I got it and while it took a while to digest the feat this album's feast which includes the delightfully uneven lyrics (Kanye seems to always be able to make rubbish lyrics great, and great lyrics even greater) and the enormous range of instrumentation (I really don't like calling it 'production' when regarding hip-hop) and the uniform vision of how excess of materialism can corrupt one's behaviour (something West has proven to be an expert at with or without his music) which is reflected in the delighfully excessive music. Anyway it did a great job in tearing down my old juvenile rockist prejudices that I had a few year's back as an annoying preteen.

I Used to be a very loud Kanye hater, not because he's an asshole, or because simply because i was an idiot who judge incredibly fast, but my only interaction with this guy ever was in '808 & Heartbreaks', and i hated it. I have no problem with Auto-tune, but it was just too much for me(among other problems that i won't detail). Not to mention, wasn't it supposed to be some fragile and sentimental Kanye in it? Why then, did he used Ghostwriters? Unless they had one of those creepy leashes from Avatar, i hardly think they would've been express Kanye as well as... well, Kanye, would've. With that in mind, i had the intention to completely ignore this album, no matter what. Eventually though, the hype was just too big for me to ignore it, and i gave... and i'm glad i did.

Kanye has been known to have a peculiar and obscure obsession about replacing Michael Jackson as the new “King of Pop”. In his newest album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, he seems to be well on his way to being just that; “The King of Hip Hop”. Fortunately, for this perfectionist, he knows that he is not the King, as he recently told MTV, "I do have a goal in this lifetime to be the greatest artist of all time, [but] that's very difficult being that I can't dance or sing."He's known to be opinionated, cynical, and indifferent to the world around him whether that be from intentionally overdoing it on the reckless New York and L.A. Scene, or it just being in his nature. He is constantly dressed, drinking and doing the finest of things with nothing but the best attitude. But this album proves to be one of the best in his 10 year career and distinguishes all of the elements to give Kanye the credit to continue acting with the ignorance that he wears so well.
He took some time off after the iconic Grammy faux pas between he and Taylor Swift. In this time of solitude, he prepared and recorded “My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy” to transcend him to the new level of musician that he was looking for. It seemed that this is his redemption without having to say just that. He uses lines like, “You're my devil, you're my angel. You're my heaven you're my hell. You're my now, you're my forever. You're my freedom, you're my jail. You're my lies you're my truth. You're my war, you're my truce. You're my questions, you're my proof. You're my stress, you're my masseuse.”Kanye truly aspires to inspire.
On this album, Kanye managed to transcend simple hip hop, rap, rock, and jazz to incorporate a new sound with everything from a vibrant church choir, to the electronic sounds of the mic to create a new modern sound that any artist would kill to come up with. The impeccable lyrics show masterful use of wordplay and exposes all of Kanye's insecurities and struggles that he continues to have between himself and his ego. The album shines the light on the impossible perfection of the American Dream that everyone strives for and exists in only that; a dream. This is definitely an album worth buying, knowing, and appreciating, for it is one that will truly pave the way and be remembered as out generation of music.

Most of the genre consists of auto-tune to cover up shitty voices, rap verses that just get boring, almost no creativity, simple beats etc. Since I'm trying to listen to new music and broaden my horizons and whatnot, I started off by listening to Kanye's latest release mostly because my brother is a huge fan of Kanye. This album fucking blew me away. I was so surprised that a rap album could actually keep my attention. The layers of instruments that he incorporates into the melody of each song is outstanding. I can listen all the way through this album and it does not skip a beat (pun very much intended). Runaway has to easily be my favorite alongside with Dark Fantasy and The Blame Game. Great job, Kanye. You made a new fan

This album is quite different from past Kanye album, but that is no way a bad thing. Each beat you can hear all the money Def Jam put in this album. However, I've heard most of these songs a month earlier. And even though they were amazing back then, I didn't just keep listening to them forever. All 11 songs blew me away at one point, and this is a defiant buy for 2010, and this will have a major effect of hip-hop for a long time. Kanye brings soul and passion to the mic, something that is hard to find with mainstream hip-hop. Kanye knows who he is, and that's a creative guy with a lot of potential, and this potential is almost fully achieved in his fifth studio effort.r

There's no telling where the melodramatic saga of Kanye West will go from here, but My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, his magnum opus, is the culmination of all the hubris, all the contradictions of image, all the public meltdowns, and all the inner demons and paranoia made public from life under a magnifying glass. As someone who was not particularly enthralled by West's antics or music until buzz tracks for Twisted Fantasy started dropping, this album has floored me in its excitement, honesty and boundary-bending ambition. "Power" indulges West's self-glorifying tendencies to startling impact, "Devil in a New Dress" gorgeously samples Smokey Robinson's "Will You Love Me Tomorrow?", and centerpiece "Runaway" closes on several minutes of auto-tuned, destroyed vocals that is riveting in its opaqueness. West raps with a confidence reflected in his music and the guest appearances shine brightly, especially Nicki Minaj's scorched-earth verse on "Monster", John Legend's graceful piano and singing on "Blame Game", and the numerous contributions of Bon Iver's (?!) Justin Vernon, which includes the generous donation of his song "Woods" for West's re-imagining in "Lost in the World". You could say Dark Fantasy is a game-changer in hip hop, and it should be, but perhaps it's not. Instead maybe it's just a stand-alone masterwork from an artist in a league all his own.

Kanye West's lyrical abilities were always trumped by his producing skills, but finally his bold words have met the level of his musical prowess. Kanye's beats have always been impressive (lets not forgot that he produced the fucking blueprint), but each track on this album seems perfect (with the exception of the two tracks in the middle, but guest appearances make them tolerable). Speaking of which, the guest spots on this album are perfectly utilized, while being quite excessive, the album is still essentially Kanye. rThis guy has balls, as he makes known in "Gorgeous", and this album proves that in every way. Whether it be the classical influences, solid beat work, lyrics, guest spots and Chris Rock conversations, this huge album could only come out of a huge ego. And for that, thank you Kanye for being the most self-centered/egotistical artist in recent pop-culture, because without those qualities you couldn't have created the best hip hop album in years.

Even if Kanye West is an egotistical, belligerent, attention whore who may very well do his blogging shitfaced, he's still a proficient pop musician. The samples are back, and he's definitely trying to top himself. With one track over nine minutes and a short film to go with the record, he may very well do so.
The album's flow is arguably the best part, with interludes building and connecting what must be Kanye's attempt at creating movements within the album. While there are numerous tracks that work well on their own, this really is meant to be heard front to back.
While you'll never catch me defending his last LP, its best elements are here, namely strong melodically driven structure. This record is packed with verses from the same crew that were on the G.O.O.D. Friday series; while this is no doubt Kanye's show the guest appearances are the icing on the cake he's eating. Kid CuDi lends his blasé singing style for the hook of "Gorgeous", which finishes with a stellar verse by Raekwon. Even Bon Iver is on here, albeit in a marginalized way. Do yourself a favour and download this.

I approached this album telling myself it was going to be terrible, that Kanye was a giant doucher, and that the title was terrible. Well Kanye is still a doucher and the title is still terrible, but this album is no way terrible. In fact, it is quite good, and I enjoy it. But there are stiil a few too many hit or miss moments lyrically. And by that I mean, there are a lot of stupid lyrics.

I don't think a single person who's heard of Kanye West (love him or hate him) can say that his heart wasn't 120% in this album. It's difficult for me to rate rap because the music to me is usually a short-lived fad. Kanye West has made something here that will be held as a benchmark for any future modern rap albums. It brings us back to the time when these artists were still emerging and dishing out those legendary historic albums we still hold in high-esteem. It's a celebration featuring countless artists and music styles here to support Kanye through his transition back into sanity. Recommended Songs: Gorgeous, POWER, So Appalled, Hell Of A Life

Kanye goes back to hip-hop, adds in everything else he's ever done, reconstructs it all and puts out his very best and most consistent work yet. Although he really does shoehorn in everything (including the kitchen sink) which causes some too-long runtimes and bloating around the edges as well as having way to many guest stars of iffy caliber (Jay-Z being one of them - dude, hang it up), this is a fantastic effort, through-and-through. "So Appalled" might have the best beat he's ever made, no small statement. I highly doubt this is going to be the hip-hop AOTY though as several releases are of a better caliber (BLACKENEDWHITE being the first pick for me).
