More fluid and cohesive than the slightly mismatched Are You Experienced?, Axis: Bold As Love truly feels like an album, something the debut blatantly lacked. Where the songs on the debut feel as though they are best heard cherry-picked, in here they feel as though they belong in the album. Essential classic rock.

An absolutely gorgeous collection of songs. Hendrix had the unenviable task of following up one of the most brilliant debut records
ever and pulls it off with ease. While there are fewer radio staples on this album, every song is wonderful in its own way. After
proving what an innovative and devastating guitar player he was with his 1st record, AXIS is a more mature & relatively laid back
album. It contains some of Jimi's most beautiful ballads and balances his manic fury with more refined sense of finesse in these
performances.
Highlights: "Little Wing", "If 6 Was 9", "Bold As Love", "One Rainy Wish" & "Castles Made Of Sand". (Do I have to stop there?)

Insane jump in quality from the first album. The first may of been more revolutionary but the sound on this is absolutely timeless, just amazing and it's insane it was done only 2 months after the first album. The use of stereo panning is insane here and much more dynamic than what was on the debut, some crazy ideas here too. 6 to 5 with that pan flute being played like a guitar, fucking what? Just dope as hell. Music lover's paradise type stuff. Loved this.

First half is just okay (aside from Little Wings), but the other half is incredible. The album is really enjoyable even if it doesnt look that much like Are you Experienced and Electric Ladyland, theirs more ballads and less big solo. Again a classic from Jimi Hendrix 8-8,5/10

Axis: Bold as Love may be the Jimi Hendrix Experience's least descriptive album, but there's still plenty to like on here. There's a couple songs that sound almost unfinished, so there's not alot on here that ranks among their best work. Those same songs would be the highlights of other bands careers if they made them, as the musicianship remains top notch and so does Jimi's scratchy voice and thoughtful lyrics. There is more of a storytelling angle to this record than on his debut. Little Wing is incredible, one his best, and the highlight of the album. The funky If 6 Was 9 and Ain't No Telling are also standouts. There's at least something redeeming in each track.

Tricky, twitchy, delicate, libidinous and imbued with absolute wizardry. However, for all his rule breaking complexities, Hendrix still has time to show the power of simplicity on his solo of the album closing title track.

Unless you are collecting all Hendrix records, you should buy "Are you experienced", skip this one and then buy "Electric Ladyland". "Bold as love" is on another league - clearly not as good as the other two.

A fantastic album. I personally find it the weakest of the JHE's three albums, but that doesn't men it isn't great. Songs like "Bold As Love", "If 6 Was 9", "Little Wing", and "Castles Made Of Sand" are still considered to be some of Hendrix's finest work. I think what I love about this album is how it is so unlike any other album of his, it isn't so much about sex and voodoo, but more focused on actual love and experiences in his life. An amazing piece of work.

Picks up where the debut left off but progresses the sound even further. Is the perfect prelude to Electric Ladyland, no doubt two of the greatest rock records ever written.

As I said about Are you experienced, this album, Hendrixs' second album, Axis Bold as Love, is monumental. I may even go as far to say that it's *drum pounding* HIS BEST ALBUM! How can it not be? It has Spanish Castle Magic, Little wing, and a ton of more. Electric Ladyland and Hendrixs debut are wonderful albums, but this tops em both. It's simply mezmerising.
