One of the most wildly inventive and inspired indie rock albums of all time. There are sounds that may sound familiar to us now, but these guys pretty much invented them. This album is goddamned amazing.

Fell in love with it the second I heard "Randy Described Eternity". Doug Martsch truly is a master at what he does. I highly recommend this album to anyone who like music.

This just might be my favorite album of all time. It is one of the most emotionally and musically intense pieces of music that I have ever experienced. Doug Martsch is a master of tension and release, an art that is lost in too much of modern music. Each song is a roller coaster ride, with dark and brooding sections contrasted with lighter, more major-chord sounding sections. Just compare 2:10 of Out Of Sight with the noise guitar solo that ends I Would Hurt A Fly. One is light and almost bouncy, while the other is dark and intense. Each song has many different sections to it, each with a different ambiance, which seems like it shouldn't work, but these sections flow together perfectly. The last 1:40 of Made-Up Dreams is easily one of the most heartbreaking and beautiful pieces of music I've ever heard. And through all of its intensity and power, beautiful is the best word to describe this album, as it is always laying just under the surface and we may need to look past the noise and loud guitars to find it (in a good way.) This album is a masterpiece, on par with In The Aeroplane Over The Sea or Kind Of Blue or whatever you wish to compare it to. This is what music should be.

In September 1994 Built to Spill released their second album, There's Nothing Wrong with Love which included an unlisted track that was meant to be a joke "preview" of their next album to be released within the next year. Well, it eventually took nearly two and a half years for the band to release it. And yes, it was worth it. It was basically the opposite of what was to be expected after their successful previous record that consisted mostly of more straightforward and fairly short pure indie rock songs. This time Doug Martsch provided songs that take their time to develop. And each of these 8 songs have multiple parts and subtleties that make this record so amazing. Doug Martsch's guitar and vocals alone sound so lovely that sometimes while listening to them I feel like I'm in the middle of a dream that I don't want to end. Not to forget the cello featured in my favourite song "I Would Hurt a Fly".
Perfect from Now On is not perfect, but if I were to make a list of its flaws, I'd find it damn hard.

So meticulously constructed, Perfect From Now On is an album that grows and grows with each listen. While at first the songs may seem overlong, their intricacies are revealed with further listening and you can keep coming back and finding new things to enjoy. The captivating atmosphere established by the dramatic lyricism and Martch's idiosyncratic vocal delivery is amplified by the interesting riffs and spacy, almost progressive jams and solos. Like most classic albums Perfect From Now On requires some persistence from the listener who is in turn rewarded with an album of extraordinary detail and longevity. An epic masterpiece.
