First they ditch nu metal, now Linkin Park ditch the *single* formula: finally creating an album that embraces their experimentation in a full blown course. Old school fans will proclaim this the death of LP, and haters are gonna hate. But for those who are willing to explore A Thousand Suns openly will find an album that capitalizes on their eccentricities-which in return compliments what they've been capable of all along.

Truly "average" at best. A catchy but hugely pretentious album whose watered-down pop/arena rock sound has been manufactured for one purpose: Singles, singles, singles. Still, not quite as dismal as MtM.

Wahhhhhhhh this doesn't sound like HT/Meteora Linkin Park so it's automatically bad! Get the hell over it. Bands change. Somehow it's ok for Thrice and Radiohead but not Linkin Park? rIf this album was Linkin Parks first album ever released, this would have an average score of at least a 3.5, but since there's this hatred for everything LP does, it's a 2.5. Fucking stupid.

It's a grower. To enjoy something like this you really have to forgive Linkin Park for completely breaking off what was once their signature sound. You have to open your mind to what they are now, and electronica band. Is that bad? I expect most of you to think so. Sputnik has weird sets of double-standards. Some bands are allowed to change (Brand New, Radiohead), some aren't and Linkin Park happens to fall in that group. It's too bad, the band sounds the most mature they've ever sounded here. Will you like it all? No, there are some craptastic songs (ex. The Messenger), but our tastes change over time, why shouldn't the band be allowed to change too? It's not as bad as you're hearing, this site simply shelters people. Recommended Songs: Blackout, Robot Boy, Waiting for the End

Meh, the melodies weren't memorable, they could have done so much more with this style. If you listen to the first 2 albums, sure they had some epic songs, but a lot of their songs were SUPER formulaic and had barebone melodies and guitar riffs, people loved the style though. I see the same artist with a new style, they don't make amazing melodies anymore but overall they have matured musically.rIn the end (lol), it sounds like a mediocre Porcupine Tree album, which is just awesome for a mainstream band.

I won't let this turn into a rant, nor will I let it cloud my judgement during this review
but let me start by saying, Linkin Park clearly jumped off the Nu Metal wagon because of its
decrease in popularity. Moving on... Oh where do I start. Amongst the unnecessary
pretentious interludes there is an interesting, lively Electronic Rock style which, if you
can accept their change, you will grow to like after plentiful listens. There are a few nice
songs like Robot Boy and Waiting For The End. Despite being a fan of their original sound I
cannot bring myself to appreciate Blackout because Chester's voice is getting weaker meaning
poorer executed screams mixed with a weirdly transitioned breakdown. From the album art to
the song titles, you can tell this is a concept album that strives to be ambiguous but ends
up sounding rather cheesy and somewhat tired.

I don't care what people say about that they are not nu-metal or rock at all. I think this album is as good as their first album, Hybrid Theory, although the genres of the two are totally different. The anger and emotion on every album is still shown, however, the structure of the song is various and makes the whole album worth to listen to it for many times, especially I keep listen to the album every day until i felt a little bit tired of listening to it after about an year, and every song of the album in my iTunes are played more than 50~60 times totally.

just because nu metal isn't mainstream anymore doesn't mean that you have to move away from it. Korn still do nu metal. So do Taproot and Staind. Linkin Park used to be great, now they are not. The funny thing is that my windows media player classifies this album as 'metal'. Yeah right, this is not metal in any way shape or form.

After the generic crap that was Minutes To Midnight, Linkin Park releases an interesting, for some part matured and well thought - out album that makes them somewhat interesting again. If you are willing to open up your mind, you will a great album that, while there's definitely room for desire here, shows that LP has grown up and has found a new, well fitting sound.

As an LP fan, you'll enjoy the art and craft they express this time around. But if your just in for it for the next catchy single, you won't find it here. Most of the album (unfortunately) is filler from episodic quotes throughout history. They fit quite afectively if you listen to the "A Thousand Suns: Full Experience" track. But it's sad to not hear a song that most LP listeners will fall in love with.

I was one of those people who thought that because they have basically sold out and have changed their sound that I wouldn't like the album. But its actually really good and creative. Although there are a few things in songs that I think should not have been in the songs. But other than that. Excellent album.

So, yeah, I can see why someone would consider this a step up from their previous. There's, however, at least three reasons why it isn't: 1. Half of the album are interludes. 2. There's some really generic and bad songs here. Burning In The Skies is a mediocre ballad, with mediocre lyrics, mediocre singing and it's even rehashed from Shadow Of The Day, a single from their previous, huummmm, how should I call it, "effort". Blackout and The Messenger both suffer from very poor songwriting and the most forced vocals ever. 3. Although many consider the change of musical style some kind of an evolution, I seriously can't take out of the head the idea of Linkin Park members reuniting and deciding something like: "Hey, rock isn't fashion anymore, let's try electronica, everybody's listening to that now". Nice try, sellouts. Nevertheless, the two first singles are decent enough to be worth a listen like twice in a month. Otherwise they will get old, just like any other song coming from this guys. In conclusion, give the The Catalyst, Waiting For The End and even Wretches And Kings a try, but don't bother buying the whole thing.

A Thousand Suns yet again proves that Linkin Park is a band that can form their sound with each album they put out, and still manage to put out quality music. Nothing compared to their older stuff though, here are 15 tracks that span more than music, but become an experience in a way. With all the sound clips and atmosphere built here, combined with the absolutely stunning vocals and well put together electronic bits, this album doesn't have that much to complain about. The biggest problem with this is that it's a Linkin Park album, without that name this could've been great.

I real mainstream cabacle this once great Nu Metal band (nowadays a real odd sort of alt rock) has managed with their fourth full-length release. A few songs got my appeal but that only because they sounded anything off an odd mix of sounds; sometimes it is even hard to know if one is listening to Linkin Park or not, I just scratch my head during these moments and dream back to the early 00s when they actually were ambitious in the right direction, even if Nu Metal wasn't exactly the genre of music with the best reputation albeit that sound is much more this band's style before grabbing the hand of the major label cliche that is money digging. I am not even sure if they can manage even that this time around. MtM at least had the old sound intact at the first half of the disc but in contrast then ATS sounds much more like a distorted second part of that album: where it was more alternative rock than anything else and now with some added oddity experimental "soundscape". I am in doubt that they will ever get out of the grave they have dug for themselves for future any interest in the band's music (from my part at least)... unless they go back to the good ol' days of Nu, instead of trying something New and boring like this...

All i know about Linkin Park is that I've grown up with them and Enjoyed them Since Hybrid theory, And i gave every album a excellent review, But this one was much different for me personally, Because Most of the rock that i loved was gone and replaced with Techno riffs and slow ballads. This album has definately changed the way i see Linkin Park and truly does change the way i feel about them. Though i still love this band, I'm disappointed about their change in musical style.
The Catalyst: This is Probably my favorite Song on the album, Due to the strong Lyrical content, And Hard rhythm. 4.5/5
Waiting for the End: This song has truly changed the way i see Linkin Park, Though i do like song, This song has too much techno in it for me to treat as a Real linkin park Rock song, But i like the power of the song and the lyrics. 3.5/5
Robot boy: This is a pretty good song actually, though it is a slow ballad which i don't hear much in Linkin Park, The lyrics and sound is very powerdul and moving. 4/5.
Burning in the skies: Okay, This song is very uninspiring for me, Though i will say the lyrics are excellent, The sound is too pop rock sounding for me. 2/5.
Wretches and Kings: This song is one i'm Impressed with, The lyrics are powerful as always, The sound is rocking, and i love the speech part in the beginning and end, which sets up for the Hard Rock that Linkin Park is known for. 4/5.
Though i will say this is a Good album, Unfortunately, I can only say that this is just a good album. I like some of these songs, But to me, This Is Linkin Park worst album yet, Hopefully their next album will fix it all!

Linkin Park have thankfully found a winning, engrossing sound after departing from their nu-metal roots. Laid back, experimental and almost without a hint of distorted guitar or frenetic, fast paced drumming, A Thousand Suns bounces enthusiastically out of, and perhaps because of, Minutes to Midnight's nose dive and soars.

A wonderfully crafted concept album that will awaken all your senses and leave you wanting more.
A lot of people like to pigeonhole a band based on the success of their most popular album and its sound. Hybrid Theory was a monster of a nu-metal album for Linkin Park and they followed it up with a similar, but more polished album in Meteora.
This was the point where things started to change. No longer happy to be just plodding along in the nu-metal bracket, Chester Bennington and Mike Shinoda made the decision to make the music they wanted to write and the beginning of the rebirth of Linkin Park.
Gone were the nu-metal riffs, harshly screamed choruses and snappy raps and in their place were intricately crafted samples, clever and emotional lyrics and heartfelt rapping. Minutes To Midnight was a good album - just not the full evolution of Linkin Park. A Thousand Suns now is that evolution.
From the haunting and menacing samples of Oppenheimer, Savio & Luther King speeches to the interlude tracks filled with sounds of gunfire and explosions, A Thousand Suns is the mother of all concept albums and songs like The Catalyst, Burning In The Skies, Iridescent and Blackout are epic tracks worthy of being on any concert setlist.
The rock genre was crying out for a band stuck in a creative rut to break down the walls of constraint and finally treat us to an album worthy of their masterful creativity and talent.
A Thousand Suns is one of the best albums in the past ten years from the rock genre - quite simply it is the pivotal moment of Linkin Park's career and with the bar set this high it will be interesting to see how they follow this up.

Id all the worthless/plain bad tracks, and was left with a nice looking EP of 6 tracks: Burning in the Skies, When They Come for Me, Waiting for the End, Blackout, Wretches and Kings and The Catalyst. The others are barely worth a mention, pointless noises between tracks that seem to just pad out the album, and some tracks that are just about as boyband-esque as it gets. Wretches and Kings shows the most real experimentation and is easily the best track, but the others I named here all have promise, although The Catalyst sounds very much like it will break into Happy Hardcore at any minute...

Reanimations gay, pretentious brother gives us Linkin Park trading in their U2 impressions for rap-laden electronica-pop. Though sometimes heading dangerously close to Angels and Airwaves territory, A Thousand Suns is an enjoyable, surprisingly cohesive album, provided you never took the comparisons to Kid A seriously.
