Okay. Upping the rating to a classic. I have listened to nothing but this album since I first heard it like a week and a half ago. This hasn't happened since I first heard Jane Doe, which is also one of my favorite album of all time. Any album that I can listen to that many times in a row is automatically considered a classic in my mind.
If their next album is any better than this one I might never listen to any other album again.

Great album, really enjoying every second of it. The only problem i have is i really liked the blackened metal style they had on "A Fragile Hope", that mixed with the greater ambition and dynamics of this record would have been something special.

The whole album is a musical journey! "Drowning/Sinking", "Callous Heart", "An Ocean of Lights", "A Foreboding Sky" and "Frozen" are one of my favorite songs after so many years.

Main problem are the vox: the screams are really adolescent, but not in a Le Pre Ou Je Suis Mort way, more like mid-2000s metalcore; and the cleans are whiney. Apart from that, music is good post-hardcore/post-metal.

Maybe I'm used to listening to heavier metal, I don't know but I didn't think there was anything special about this album. Vocals are unimpressive and the clean singer comes off as sounding a little too whiney and emo for music that is supposed to be metal. I mean, seriously, where is the balls! Most of the songs on this album sound the same and follow the same song structure. Some songs are too long which doesn't help when you are bored after the first two minutes. If you want to listen to a new, good prog band, listen to Trenches who have a post-rock/metal vibe thing going on but sound SOOO much better. This album is not really that bad nothing about it really stands out. Don't listen to this, listen to Trenches instead.

Such a superb album. Songs like "An Ocean of Lights" and "Drowning/Sinking" are probably the highlights- very emotional and moving songs. The only song that I'm not too keen on is "The Dissapointment", which quite frankly is dissapointing. Nevertheless, kudos to these guys.

Although it is not as good as A Fragile Hope, Blessed & Cursed feels more complete than its predecessor and still packs a punch, albeit a cute jab rather than a crunching left hook. Maybe my skepticism is bought about due to an unfair bias towards the album that introduced me to post-metal, but nevertheless this is further proof that Devil Sold His Soul deserve to be massive.
