Recovery seems to exist for one sole purpose: to remind all of his detractors (and lets face it, aren't we all these days?) just how damn impressive Em' can be when he's firing on all cylinders. Forget misguided attempts (Relapse), and forget his rebelling against the mainstream hype factory (Encore), this is the all important final chapter in the story of Marshall Mathers that started all the way back in 1999. Just like The Marshall Mathers LP, Recovery might just end up dwarfing the world. Em' just got relevant again

This is the first album where he attempts to go back to the 'shady'ness of his first two LP's. He still isn't quite there as there are a few tracks out of place and a couple that should of just been dropped. A better track ordering would benefit this album, as would a shortening of it. The accent is mostly gone, but some of the pop sensibilities are still around. You won't find a 'Stan', 'Under The Influence', 'My Name Is' or 'Guilty Conscience' on here, but what you will find is solid. It's hopefully a stepping stone to reperfecting his infamous style.

Sure, its not the Marshall Mathers LP, but this music is as dense as he's gotten since then, and ill be damned if anyone thinks this is worse than his previous album. We were promised Relapse 2, but what we got surpassed that by a massive amount. Recovery is Eminem re-activated after 10 years of drug suppression and lyrical focus that makes it even easier to criticize Relapse and mourn Encore.

While better than Relapse, Recovery shows Eminem floundering in self-pity and trying too hard to become relevant again. The songs feature artists that the Eminem of 10 years ago wouldn't have been caught dead with, and even these efforts yield vapid results. Eminem's song writing may be back on track, but his lyrics are laughable more often than not. This is not The Marshall Mathers LP Pt. 2, no matter how much fans may want it to be. It is just an average record from an artist whose relevance continues to wane.

Yes, that's right, he acknowledges that he made 2 shit albums and apologises for them! When I heard this, my respect for Em shot right back up. This is a really good comeback album. Gone are the dodgy accents, gone are the dumb lyrics and gone are the commercial sounds. This album is a real throw back to his first 2 albums with the songs having a raw, controversail and emotional edge to them and it really took me by surprise. And this is coming from someone who usually doesn't listen to rap.
Only downside is the choruses get a bit annoying after a while.
Eminem has recovered.

"Relapse" scared me a bit with the whole weird accent and effortlessness, but Eminem has almost fully redeemed himself with "Recovery". It is as the name suggests, not just a recovery for him but for us as well. Here, he tops almost all the songs on "Relapse" with slicker and catchier beats, better song subjects, and his fundamental rapping skills. There is a lot to love here, and this CD shattered almost every doubt that I had in him. He still has filler here, but most importantly, he still has it, even though I know we all thought he'd actually lost his shit. Recommended Songs: Talkin' 2 Myself, Won't Back Down (Ft. Pink), No Love (Ft. Lil' Wayne), Almost Famous

Love every song on here except 'Won't Back Down. It's growing on me so I might give it a 5 in the future, but for now it's just a 4.5. Talkin' to myself, No Love, 25 to Life, and 'You're Never Over'. only elevated my respect for Eminem as an artist. Great album. I think this is not only a great album for rap but for music itself. Encourage everyone to buy the album. As always I know I will.

has some damn good, straight up beastish songs (ex: won't back down, almost famous, cold wind blows). in fact, i think the 3rd verse in won't back down is one of his greatest verses ever. between the whole volume-changing thing, and some DIRTY lines ("fork was in the road, took the psychopath, poison ivy wouldn't have me thinking rash"), that song is the shit, as are the other b.a. ones i mentioned. even some of the ballads are fantastic (going through changes and not afraid). rHOWEVER, this album definitely has its flaws. my biggest beef w/ this album is the generally ass-awful guest spots. specifically, the various singers on talkin' 2 myself, space bound, and especially cinderella man just flat out suck. maybe i'm just being racist (probably), but the sometimes-autotune, sometimes-gospelish styles that these various unheard of singers use are just terrible. granted the female guest spots are generally good, but pretty much all the guy ones suck huge dick (although some shitty spots work in em's favor, such as when he straight up embarrasses lil wayne in no love). while these eh-ish vocal parts aren't necessarily em's fault, he still could've opted to hire some other singers/rappers to accompany him. same goes w/ the beats in my opinion - being that so bad is the only dre-produced track, recovery just doesn't have that eminem feel to it. roverall, this album's inconsistency and faults (although not necessarily on em's shoulders) bring it down slightly, but it's still a great album with some solid tracks (and w/o that fucking terrible accent thankfully).

I hear a lot of shit talking about the previous two efforts, which collectively make up a third of Marshall Mather's career. This brings me to wondering when exactly critics find that Eminem WAS relevant. After 14 years, he's still got it. Strangely enough, after all of the hooplah about Dre not producing, one of the weakest tracks on Recovery is Dre produced. The Khalil tracks really do it for me, despite the hooks involving an interesting cast of characters, to say the least. Other tracks often follow suit, but I think that as a whole, Recovery is the best CD Eminem has put out. After a few listens, and the a retrospective listen to past releases by Em, he's way more impressive now than he ever was.

The album is truly eminems recovery. A much needed improvement from his last two efforts. Sure the tunes are catchy and will please the mainstream fans but the album is so much more than that. It's his way of saying sorry for his previous actions and the less than impressive albums released. Recovery is exactly what the hip-hop world needed. The only downfalls of the album are the guest spots which are just not very good. Shady's back and Recovery is the perfect chance to let the world know.

While this is a mixed bag album, Em's flow is more nimble and fierce than we've heard him in years. For the first time in two albums, Em sounds interested in what he's doing.

This album could get a higher ranking as I listen to it more. It doesn't have the lyrical rope a dope like Relapse did, showcasing a drug-addled mind. I may be the only person in the world, Shady included, who thought Relapse was great. But Recovery is definitely going to be a success for him, he's on point, he sounds HEALTHY, its hard to explain, even the beats are clean.
I'm a fan. Encore the exception, Shady never just throws out an album
