Not to be an asshole or anything, but I think most of you are completely missing the point of many of these songs. You'd probably guess Take This Life is about suicide, right?
It's not, just like the album isn't built for people who easily understand music. Read the lyrics, listen to the guitar, and pay attention to the drumming. Everything is harmonious, and extremely well executed. But even moreso than the epic drumming, or the shredding vocals, I think this album has some potent meaning, style, and passion. Not many bands have done what In Flames has done, and if you think this album is crap, don't post it on here. You obviously have no ear for music.

This could be the first time in metal history in which the commercial fans and original fans both were pleased with an album. In Flames come roaring back after two weak efforts with their best album in seven years in Come Clarity. Listeners get a great feel of the ripping, thrashy side of the band with the intense metal pieces of Take This Life, Vacuum, and Crawl Through Knives, none of which let up for one moment. We then have the songs that appears to be the "new" In Flames such as Leeches and Dead End, which are both absolutely stunning. Songs like Vanishing Light and Versus Terminus may begin to run into each other by the end of the album, but in their own right each song is good. The title track, a heart-ripping ballad is not to be missed. Reccomended to any metal fan, this album represents the breakthrough for In Flames into the American market.

The first In Flames record I ever heard, I must admit I didn't listen to it for weeks after a cursory first time through. I clearly must not have been paying attention, because the next time I listened to it, I was very impressed with it. Although it's not necessarily my favorite musical genre, I was immediately taken by the stellar musicianship and impassioned vocals, especially on my favorite track of the album, "Scream", a 4.5/5 from me. Other noteworthy songs from this album include "Leeches", "Come Clarity", and "Crawl Through Knives".

I don't care what anyone has to say about In Flames' new albums or their recent releases. A lot of what people have to say about their newer releases is negative because they didn't expect them to change their style at all. Personally I think that if a band doesn't explore their genre or their musical influences their actual productions become boring and repetitive. In Flames has always written great songs and explored their genre in ways where other bands don't. The bottom line is their musicianship is beyond anything I've heard in their genre. Their ability to explore and keep writing music that can relate to more than just one crowd is enough in itself to say they deserve more credit than they get.
All I'm trying to say, because I am in a metal band myself, is that In Flames' latest album 'Come Clarity' definitely deserves more credit than its been given because of style change and diversity. I have listened to their last 3 releases for years and I don't intend to change that. I've listened to their entire discography and I think they not only have progressed musically and talent-wise, but they've also grown as a group.
Phenomenal band, phenomenal release.
Enough said.

At the time when I bought this album, I was not a huge death metal fan. It was then the heaviest album I owned so naturally it took several listens for it to sink in properly but when it did I realised just how great this album which I had originally undersetimated was.
The first In Flames song I ever heard was 'Take This Life,' the opening track on this album. I was hooked by the brutality of the verses and the catchy melodic vocals during the chorus. it didn't take me long after that to research the band further and I decided to by a couple of albums of theirs, opting for Come Clarity and Whoracle.
While whoracle is regarded by some as one of In Flames' best and indeed a death metal classic, I personally think that Come Clarity is somewhat better. Don't get the wrong impression and think I am saying Whoracle is a bad album, quite the opposite, I would probably rate it as a solid 4. However, I like the way this album contains more clean vocals, (the song 'Dead End' even including a guest appearence from a female singer) their hooks really giving the songs the extra boost to ensure they stick firmly in your head.
One of the other main factors that I hold this album in such high regards is the guitar work. Throughout the album there is riff after riff chugging away constantly, some of the more outstanding ones including the opening to the songs 'Scream' and 'Crawl Through Knives.' The only moment during the album when the relentless guitar onslaught stops is during the ballad-tinged title track, but even that includes excellent acoustic guitar melodies, and a very good solo too.
Overall this album packs a hell of a punch whithout overdoing it and the clean vocals dotted throughout it provide the icing on the cake which make this such a great album and a must-have for all fans of melodic death metal.

It is the first In Flames album I became exposed to (through Gh3). After looking into their older stuff and comparing it to my favourite albums (Colony, and Whoracle). It does not stand against them in my opinion. However it's still an excellent album. Yes In Flames are not producing the same old school melodeath and are becoming more mainstream. I dont see them as getting worse. They're just changing. Their old albums are still their and still part of them and this is them trying a bit different sound. The pounding chords are still there the powerful riffs and the wicked solos and Andres voice is still excellent, combining a powerful guttral scream full of desperation and emotion aboslutely wrapping you in his voice.
That's another reason why this album succeeds, while Soundtrack to your escape was to eleltronic this seems to be a mix of thier older and style and their newfound style akin to Reroute to Remain and StYE. Which I think is fine.
The key tracks on this album are:
Take this life (excellent lyrics and incredibly harsh)
Come Clarity (softer, beautiful passionate lyrics and Friden's voice sells it perfectly)
Crawl Through Knives (Just a purely sick song)
Dead End (great collaboration with female vocalist, trading soft and harsh vocals. Awesome solo near the end).
The entire album apart from that is at least to say decent. But I dare you to try and not laugh at Scream, it sounds like Friden wants some ice cream. Cool song, just hilarious. Good album

How can this be a classic?? This by far In Flames' worst album... I'm a huge fan and have all of their albums. Reroute to remain was alright, then soundtrack to your escape was nearly acceptable, but Come Clarity only shines in a few guitar riffs and basically it all sounds the same...
Albums should not be compared but, really, I was expecting some amazing material like I was used to with their "Clayman", "Colony" and "Lunar Strain" albums...

Definitely a good cd, I enjoy Vacuum and Dead End the most. This kind of reminds me of Killswitch Engage, even though I should be saying KSE reminds me of In Flames. Most of the songs have heavy verses and softer, singing choruses. Pretty good, nothing special.

I have to say that i completley agree with leifer, and the people like cheese rating albums only listening to obviously part of it should be saying anything. In Flames requires a certain ear for understanding their music, in this album he speaks about life and how fast things turn and change, if you actually listen to it you will notice such amazing lyrical genius and instrumental harmonization. These guys are absolutley amazing, being able to put together this kind of sound and meaning, and passion is excellent. Great lyrics and music, full of talent and meaning unlike most new bands today. I feel they are very underrated, and they are trying to turn a new page in metal with this album.

A bit of an awkward, same-y, overproduced listen, but it's fun. The title track manages to just avoid melodrama and become in the process the best song on the record, "Leeches" is a headbanger with some unnecessary synths and an absurdly catchy chorus, and the guitarwork is excellent throughout. Other highlights are "Reflect the Storm" and "Our Infinite Struggle". The rest is passable-- the only song that doesn't work is the closer, which builds an intriguing atmosphere, only to be awkwardly interrupted by blaring heavy stuff for a minute before ending.

A little bit of filler doesn't stop this thing from kicking serious amounts of ass. Crawl Through Knives and Versus Terminus are especially devastating, and the title track is perhaps the best song In Flames have pulled together since the Whoracle days.

Assuming you don't already hate modern In Flames, there's no reason to think this album should be bad - it's more aggressive and has a ton more riffs than "Soundtrack...". Yet, it falls flat. There are a couple great songs, but they all sound the same and lack the charm and artistry of its successor. In Flames could have pulled this album off 5 years ago, but not when they tried.

My first foray into the world of Death Metal (or indeed In Flames). I downloaded it after a pleasant listen to Take This Life and Crawl Through Knives.
My expectations of such a band, playing what such such 'heavy' music, were quite low. But those expectations were blown away after a few listens to the album.
Whilst I can't compare this album to others by In Flames (since I haven't heard any), listening to Come Clarity certainly opened my eyes, and I'll be checking out some of their other work with a lot higher expectations.

It's good and all but seriously, some songs can get very tiresome and really don't stand out. Honestly, however much I listen to this album some songs for me will remain un-identified.
Come Clarity, Scream, Take This Life, Crawl Through Knives are individual whereas the other songs sound very very similar.

Wow Leifer, you actually had the balls to say this cd has "epic" drumming? Autofail.
Honestly, there are decent things about this record, the only problem is, I've heard this style presented too often by other bands, and it is nothing special. Honestly, the drumming is mediocre. If you want to hear good drumming, listen to Death (newer), Meshuggah, Planet X, Dream Theater, Tool, and Opeth. In Flames is nowhere near any of these bands in the drumming section.
The bass is terribly silent, the guitar riffs are catchy but don't really contain a unique aspect to them(meaning they sound interchangeable with many other bands riffs). The one thing I will give you is that the lyrics may be good, although I never paid attention to them because the music didn't impress me.

Come Clarity was a concerted effort by In Flames to make peace with their old fans, while continuing their experimentation (Jesper Stromblad said as much in an interview). In other words, the band is trying to have their cake and eat it too. Does it work? Kind of. The mix of the old and new influences, combined with some new stuff (seemingly lifted from the band's Passenger and Dimension Zero side projects) makes for an occasionally enjoyable, but frequently disjointed listen. In trying to please everyone while still serving their experimental needs, the band have failed to give the album any real ebb and flow, resulting in a rather confused work.
