Imagine being invited to an underwater party, one complete with silly string, balloon animals, clowns (that aren't creepy, actually), a dancefloor that transcends gravity's relationship with water, and Yannis and crew. Am I weird for picturing this scene when I think of Total Life Forever?

HYPE! HYPE! HYPE! Is all I've been hearing about this album, and so far I am not impressed. And I'm starting to realize that this band is only popular because of all the internet buzz. It's hard to form the right words to slander this album as the backlash will be unimaginably the most painful experience anyone would be forced to endure.
Soo...I'd like to start off by saying Yannis(I think that's the drama queen's name) voice is annoying. It's too troublesome to actually try and listen to this album for this problem alone. The music is boring and never is quite able to keep your attention.
Highlight of the album "Spanish Sahara" is one heck of a song. Starting out moving at a slow speed, this monster of a song leaves you in suspense, until a bone chilling climax that will leave you with a smile and soggy panties.
Now the rating...seems a little high doesn't it? "Spanish Sahara" is just that good.

when it succeeds, TLF is a huge atmospheric force. however when it fails (which unfortunately, is common), it is limp and soulless.

This one is interesting. At first I thought very little of it. Then I pushed it up to 4 once I discovered its potential. After repeated listens, along with some personal memories of mine that are attached to it - I feel that I personally need to give this a 5.

The greater ambition & maturity evident on Foals' 2nd album 'Total Life Forever' could not have been foreseen by anyone. While it may not be an especially immediate LP, its slow-burning qualities turn what initially may seem a little messy, into a satisfyingly cohesive release. From the measured beginning of opener 'Blue Blood' all the way through to tense closer 'What Remains', the Oxford quintet continuously take your breath away... No more so than on the 7 minute epic behemoth that is 'Spanish Sahara'; a bona fide song of the year contender. Recommended Tracks: Spanish Sahara, Blue Blood, This Orient, What Remains & 2 Trees.
