An extremely underrated album, although it has several similarities to the debut. The title track is an essential listen.

A very worthy and oddly underappreciated follow up to King Crimson's fabulous debut album. Do not miss out on The Devil's Triangle - a wonderful 3 part suite of progressive rock at its finest.

This is King Crimsons sophomore album, and is an adequate successor to In The Court Of The Crimson King, in my opinion.
The structure and layout of the album is similar to the afore-mentioned debut, but the music and songwriting shakes things up just enough to keep things fresh.
In the end, In The Wake Of Poseidon comes off as a satisfying and enjoyable listen, and worth a look, even though it has been criticized by some.

This record follows a pretty similar formula to the previous one. Outside of Cat Food, each of the main songs has a corresponding similar song on IN THE COURT OF THE CRIMSON KING. Pictures of a City is 21st Century Schizoid Man, Cadence and Cascade is I Talk to the Wind, and In the Wake of Poseidon is Epitaph. The final track The Devil's Triangle, a long, noisy, often unnerving piece, is a welcome change to the already flogged to death early Crimson sound but it goes so far as to sample the last record! And there are these cheesy, minute long, hippie bits about peace and water and air and other fluff that dates the embarrassment. The only reason this should be purchased is for Cat Food and the awesome Devil's Triangle. Otherwise this is a retread of something better, dated, formulaic, and otherwise unnecessary.

I agree with the majority of people that this album isn't as good as their first release, but rather than thinking they've copied their first success, they've built on it. This release is more refined, it's crisper in the direction, ideas and added sweeteners. The use of more bluesy guitar by Fripp and the jazz piano by Tippet (especially in Cat Food) brings a togetherness in a release that is also slightly unhinged. Lake's vocals also hit perfectly with the King Crimson sound.

A hugely ambitious album (similar to its predecessor) which does not quite reach the hights it could have to me. It starts off amazing with a wanky jazz-prog piece, but then takes on more ambient, atmospheric orchestral styles which are not really my thing. The closer in particular moves too far from home for my liking. Still a good overall concept piece though.

A really impressive record, shows great musicianship and virtuosity, a solid album in the King Crimson catalogue. Pictures of a City and In the Wake of Poseidon are great, and Cat Food is one of my favourite King Crimson songs.

Following the footprints of its much acclaimed predecessor; this album's hypocritical nature as one in the progressive rock genre seemingly ignores the very idea of its purpose. On top of that, it just fails to deliver at some parts in terms of overall songwriting and performance. I expect more from a group of musicians that assembled the debut album in comparison to which this undoubtedly pales.

Many consider this album an utter failure. Yeah, it's not one of Crimson's better albums but it's still very good, entertaining throughout. "Cat Food" and "Cadence and Cascade" are among some of Crimson's best songs.
