In combining two of their EP's recorded in 1987 in Strawberry Wine and Ecstasy, this compilation gives a great picture of My Bloody Valentine during that year, when they finally began to come into their own. "Strawberry Wine" opens things up as one of the band's best written songs of the 80's, and hints at their not-yet-developed noisier side can be heard on "Clair". The crown jewel of Ecstasy And Wine is "You've Got Nothing", which is one of the catchiest songs they ever wrote, and that bassline is perfect. It's a pretty interesting picture of a band growing their own sound out from under the ground that they set in 84-86, and is definitely the best of the jangle pop-styled MBV aside from isolated spots on their debut full-length.
