Riverside best record! A true modern prog gem. "I Turmed you down", the title track and "Conceiving you" are my favorite songs here. Tremendous lyrical content is also a plus for the record.

King as far as prog records go. My uncle was the one who showed me this band a few years ago. This is the album that stands out as essential. Great playing and all you could want from progressive songwriting.

Second Life Syndrome is a breakout performance for lead lead guitarist Piotr Grudzinski, providing electrifying solos on Volte-Face, Second Life Syndrome and Reality Dream III in particular. Since its debut, the band has developed an even heavier and more complete sound, paying off huge dividends for the listener's enjoyment. The hybridization of progressive rock meets metal works fantastically. And this perhaps will prove to be the band's highest achievement.

While they sound very derivative, Riverside are capable of creating interesting melodies and sounds that should appeal to any fan of modern prog metal bands like Porcupine Tree, Pain of Salvation, Dream Theater and Tool. It somehow lacks the sophistication of those bands, though. "I Turned You Down" is an absolute gem.

The individual tracks on here are better than any other Riverside album - but I don't feel it quite so well as one continuous piece. Possibly the intro/outro tracks spoil that for me. But the epics, oh yes.
