minimal techno beatings and autotuned pop nothing vox? is this all it takes to satisfy the avg person in 2024? ugh and even that gimmick exhausts itself halfway through. the zoomers this is made for wont even understand the rewind sound effect, o shit she lets out the bri'ish accent at the end

BRAT feels like the culmination of the entire PC Music era - both a celebration and an evolution of that hyper-modern, glossy, and boundary-pushing pop sound. It also confirms SOPHIE's lasting influence, channeling her experimental spirit through Charli's fearless songwriting and A.G. Cook's futuristic production. On Charli specifically: it's here that she effortlessly balances adventurous sonic textures and glitchy flourishes with some of the catchiest, most bombastic hooks she's ever delivered. This tightrope walk between experimentalism and pure pop accessibility is exactly what makes BRAT stand out as a definitive album of the 2020s - bold enough to push the genre forward, yet irresistibly catchy enough to become a classic. It's the sound of a pop artist at her absolute peak, merging underground innovation with mainstream appeal like no other.

Wish I could enjoy this as much as everyone else does. It's far from bad, but this style of abrasive, heavily produced dance pop just doesn't do it for me. There's some cool beats though.

Summer is beginning to wind down so the season of 'Brat' is coming to a close but the album will live on forever as the moment Charli XCX's music peaked in terms of both quality and approachability. Charli has been on an absolute tear since 2016's Vroom Vroom but her best projects have been a bit more edgy and usually contained some of the best guest spots in modern pop. Now Charli comes in solo and finds a perfect balance of depth to the music and production with mainstream ready bangers fit for the radio, a truly difficult feat. Favorite things about Brat are the three opening tracks in succession (can't think of another album that starts of this well), the tribute to Sophie, the moments of insecurity and the energy (the beats and the production, brilliance). An iconic moment in music and an easy AOTY contender. (greedily wishing for a mixtape style project with a ton of guests next though)
