As much a trainwreck as it is a post-hardcore, dance-punk, noise-rock gem. Brainiac has been called the most underrated band ever, and their influence has been attributed to bands such as At the Drive-in, The Blood Brothers and The Locust. Making use of an insane assortment of effects, Brainiac's twisted sense of song-writing is inherently inaccessible, completely ridiculous, but absolutely incredible.
This is some of the most gleefully weird alternative I have ever heard. Constantly bent guitar notes, bizarre moog synths, incredibly unique vocals (made even more so by the extremely inventive vocal treatments), fucked up melodies that sound as if they were once quite pleasant before this band got their hands on them... on paper this album is a complete trainwreck, but somehow they make it work amazingly well.
