When I first discovered Marina I thought WOW she is very talented. However as I listened more and more it occurred to me that she was really just pushing herself more and more into hooks of a pop singer. She has talent but she has so much more potential to go far in the Inidie community than she will in Pop music.

OH. MY. GOD.
Marina Diamandis has made one of the year's most fabulous debuts. This is exactly the kind of clever, innovative and charming pop music that thrives on quirks and defies standard structure and convention. Liven up a little and take the right path down Mowgli's Road...

Before her official album came out, I rather enjoyed most of Marina's music. However, when her song "Hollywood" came out it she seemed to be slowly declining in her originality and climbing more towards the typical, pop sound. Though some of the songs on this album were pleasing, they weren't what I had originally expected from an artist that has the caliber that she exhibits.

Quirky and contagious electropop with no shortage of catchy hooks, well composed beats and just all around fun. Marina does a great job bridging the gap between downright serious and full blown cheesiness. The Family Jewels shines in just about every category. Marina has the pipes with great range and the soul necessary to be next level good in Pop. Her beats are full on synth with some throwback elements but the sound as a whole is totally modern. The production is clean as a whistle and impressive for a debut full length. So what is wrong here? Slight complaints with some of the lyrics and the back end of the album would have benefited from some trimming. The lyrics of Hollywood are just... bad. The Family Jewels blasts off with excellent songs in Are You Satisfied?, Shampain, I Am Not A Robot, Mowgli's (maybe the most unique, best song on here) and Obsessions. From there on out it is not nearly as consistent and drags on just a bit. Fun and really well done modern Pop.

An explorable album. I really like how Marina dresses the pop structures on this album with
a wacky stylistics and a fresh bizarreness of her own. Although it's not entirely an
progressive in sound, I did like the lyricism and overall catchy hooks in these songs. She's
not breaking any new ground but she makes good pop music. You can clearly tell she's trying
here too and she lends her vocals as an instrument to play out her weirdness, which I like
but it's not 'really' bizarre in my opinion. Everything that is happening isn't a spastic
act; it's carefully plotted and I think there's too much structure in her jabbing chaos,
which eventually just becomes a hook itself.

In my opinion, Marina doesn't get the attention she deserves. She's got one of the quirkeist-yet-beautiful styles of music out there at the moment, and it's overlooked because it *is* kind of weird. Marina doesn't hold back on that. She's not afraid to chant along with animal screeches like on "Mowgli's Road' or, well, make a song called 'Hermit the Frog'.rBehind the titles and weirdness is a beautiful singer with beautiful music. 'Obsessions' is my personal favourite track off of the album, but even on songs with more production like 'Are You Satisfied?' or 'Numb' manage to be honest and beautiful.rOn this album, Marina knows what she's doing and she does it well. When she's got something to get across, she does it with style. The tracks manage to be a lot more than just simple pop yet still incredibly catchy. This is a rare feat, and one worthy of 45 minutes of your time.

2010, the year that renowned artists such as Kanye West, Janelle Monae, Big Boi, etc., rose to the higher echelons of pop music by honing their craft was also the year that we saw the emergence of the wild and quirky Welsh pop singer Marina Diamandis with her album The Family Jewels. Now, The Family Jewels isn't the genre's saving grace, but it's a damn fine debut LP full of glorious pop sheen, propelled by Marina's idiosyncratic vocal delivery and somewhat unconventional songwriting prowess. Marina plays to her pop sensibilities by borrowing elements from cited influences that range from Kate Bush to Elliott Smith, infusing various musical styles to create something organic and invigorating within a genre notorious for its homogeneity. The vast majority of songs ride a wave of emphatic happiness; most of them so bubbly and light-hearted that they beg to be sung along to. What's surprising is how genuine and honest it all comes across, as pop artists tend to sound detached when approaching the genre. It seems as though British female pop stars have been making a splash in popular music recently and Marina & The Diamonds has cemented herself as one of the better, more distinguishable pop stars to emerge in 2010. Highly recommended for people seeking a contemporary pop album with a keen sense of exceptional songwriting that's very enjoyable through and through.

Beautiful voice, amazing and catchy pop music. One of the best albums of 2010. My favorite pop record of all time. Marina and her diamonds will make you grateful for the existance of music. Oh and her name is Marina Lambrini Diamandis, isn't that a beautiful name? If you're not listening to this, I hate you. If you're listeningn and don't love it, I will hunt you down, torch your house with your family in it and steal your puppy.
