with the end of the swancore wars upon us, fights were had, blood was shed, kurt travis was kicked out of a half dozen bands, and women were abused. who would've thought 10 years ago it'd be Hail the Sun standing on top of the pile of yuck this genre has turned into.

I never expected Hail the Sun to top Wake, but they somehow did it and made their best album yet.
This is the most excited I've been about a new post-hardcore release since I was in college.

I've always been a Hail the Sun fan and have been to four or five of their shows, but Mental
Knife and New Age Filth were pretty lacking to me. Luckily, this is a return to form.

Swancore never was my cuppa, but Divine Inner Tension proves that despite the genre's lack of relevance in 2023, Hail the Sun remain the best to deliver cheesy'n'proggy slabs of swancore.

I think the rein that Hail the Sun had over the swancore sound is starting to crumble. The band?s sixth studio record shows a lot of the same ideas and sounds they have been showing for the last decade. For many, this is perfectly fine, but I think the sound is starting to get rather stale at this point. ?Divine Inner Tension? just feels like something they have already released before?if not released five times. However, you can tell they are trying to get back to the same highs as 2014?s ?Wake?. Overall, the album is solid while it?s on, but if they continue down this path, I will grow more and more bored with the sound they have been known for so many years.

I can see why a lot of people would like this, but I don't. It's a voice we've heard a lot from other bands and a voice I would rather not hear again. Technical playing but no vibe or groove, a lot of studio tricks to make up for dull music.

Was really cooling on this band over the years since Wake (aside from Secret Wars), but this one really delivers. Great stuff front to back.

never understood the post-elephantitis sput hype around this band but wowee does this record deliver. It still has a few of their trademark annoying baby-voice moments but these are their most inspired hooks and melodies yet and the instrumentals sound like De-loused in the best possible way.
