I dont get all the 3's. Sure the album's nothing revolutionary, but its damn fun and well executed. And its not overproduced... thats just Vampire Weekend being Vampire Weekend.

Could somebody remind me again what the fuss about Vampire Weekend was about? Not the praise, mind you, that was warranted (if overzealous). But I fail to understand why people felt so offended by these guys' insistent braininess. Yeah, "California English" is pretty fucking obnoxious, and the autotune is terribly employed, and Contra may burst at the seams with largely incoherent globetrotting references, but the musical sensibility at the heart of this hugely fun album trumps any overly fussy ideas at play.

This album transcends the phrase "sophomore slump." The first time I heard this album I was literally bored to tears and I was in a rather big VW fan at this time having really liked their debut quite a bit. Even when I occasionally give this a second chance once in a blue moon this is truly one of the most boring indie albums I have honest to God ever heard

In my opinion, this is the greatest Vampire Weekend album. It's quirky, wild, and fun. Each time I listen to this album, it feels like the first time I've ever heard it. It's hard to pick a favorite as they're all pretty much highlights. Their other albums are great, but I feel this embodies the sound that so many indie artists try to achieve yet never quite successfully pull off. "White Sky," "California English," and "Cousins" are probably the ones from here I listen to most, but you really can't go wrong listening to any of this album. So incredibly underrated too. How this only has an average of 3.5 is quite a shame. Will be a blast to listen to during the upcoming summer as well!

While it tends more towards pop sounds than their debut, Vampire Weekend lets the music be more consistent and the lyrics more understandable this time around, resulting in a better listening experience overall.

Great stinking album. I feel like they up-ed the production and lost some of the raw feel that was on their debut, but i kinda don't care. There are so many catchy hooks that i can't get the songs out of my head. I understand why so many people have this album on their top for 2010, it truly is a great album.

Vampire Weekend certainly isn't doing any reinventing with 'Contra,' but they have moved to a more poppy, slightly mainstream sound. The album is still entertaining and fun, just as their debut was, but the lack of memorable songs is what hurts them.

Pretty close to a 3.5 but it's a bit inconsistent. Some really good individual songs. I do love "Cousins" and "Run" a whole lot. I'm gonna see them live and I think their songs will be quite suited to the whole live deal.

Is it just me or does this album just feel too cluttered? It's like Vampire Weekend took what they achieved with their s/t and just added a shit load on top of it. At certain points it works out alright but the overall feel of the album is messy. Too much going on for it to be as good as "Vampire Weekend" but still a very solid sophomore release.
