2.5 average | Kusangii | April 13th 23 | Metallicas music can most accurately be compared to snowflakes. Every snowflake is unique; rdiverse; one of a kind. Each one has something special about it. On its own it symbolizes the radvent of something beautiful and captivating, while as one of a flurry it falls serenely, forming ra picturesque scene so stunning it defies words. Just like snowflakes, every Metallica song is rspecial in its own right. Within an album, the music is like a flurry ensnaring the senses with remotionally charged progressive. Given the excellent structures and production values of 72 rSeasons, the tidal waves of emotionally epic metal crash down harder than ever. Words cannot rdescribe the beautiful pain inflicted by such dad metal.

1.5 very poor | DirtyGoyim | April 18th 23 | Absolute horseshit. Let's be honest for a second. Absolutely no one would buy this if it were another band. Let alone praise this as "masterpiece" or that it's "new and fresh" like i've read here and there. Overproduced, weak sounding af, uninspired, boring...this album pretty much represents everything that's wrong with modern metal. I don't expect MOP 2, i couldn't care less if it's thrash, it just flat out sucks

2.5 average | manosg EMERITUS | April 14th 23 | Lots of Load/Reload elements, which is not a bad thing, but the songwriting is inferior and the album lacks even one song that will make me want to come back to in the near future. That being said, this is far from hot garbage, probably because Hetfield is one of the greatest metal songwriters of all time.

3.4 great | Trey STAFF | April 13th 23 | There's no reason to deny it, the average modern Metallica release would not make nearly the same impact if it wasn't for nostalgia and legacy (not to mention name recognition) -- but who cares? There are clearly millions of fans around the world that still anticipate any new Metallica release because they can still make us feel a certain way. 72 Seasons delivers that feeling. There's the iconic voice of James Hetfield and his even more iconic rhythm playing, there's the simplistic self-taught style of Lars' percussion, the wah-wah goodness of Kirk's solos, and the solid (audible) bottom end of Robert's bass. There's more to it than that, though. For better or worse, Metallica have never been one to stagnate, and they haven't started now. With a smattering of new influences combined with the homage to their own past, Metallica's 72 Seasons is another solid release in their discography. It's an album that feels more consistent and original than anything they've done since the Load releases from forever ago.

2.5 average | Mitch | April 15th 23 | I stan Metallica's newer material, but this album isn't cutting it. The lack of variety is what kills it for me. There just isn't enough going on sonically to warrant that ludicrous 87 minute runtime.

2.5 average | FirstStrikeIsDeadly | April 20th 23 | Some good riffs, title song and You Must Burn and Crown of Barbed Wire are alright. That's about it though, overall this is the least inspired album Metallica ever made. Every song is way too long and the cool riffs are sparse. This just makes me appreciate Death Magnetic more.

2.5 average | Anderw1983 | April 19th 23 | Well. This is a Metallica album alright. It has some riffs. Has some solos. The performances are pretty good. It?s not a bad record but I just don?t really see it differentiating itself at all from another other metal band or Metallica album. Like a ton of this stuff is in one ear and out the other for me and it gets pretty stale with it rinsing and repeating a lot of the same ideas.

3.5 great | FrozenFirebug | April 19th 23 | Lars is a bad drummer, but an excellent businessman. He's the glue that holds Metallica together, but he sucks.rThe snare on St. Anger is terrible, and the songs go on for WAY too long! I just watched the Some Kind of Monster rdocumentary, turns out James was going through rehab during the album's writing process. Kirk Hammett is a lazy lead rguitarist who improvises solos instead of adding to the song in any meaningful way. He says he lost 400 riffs on his riPhone, but that's probably a lie, because he's never riffed in his life. Lulu is abysmal, and James Hetfield is a rtable who only writes chug riffs. Also Dave Mustaine wrote every Metallica song ever and Megadeth is better. Death rMagnetic's production is super brickwalled so it sucks. Load and Reload aren't metal and suck because they aren't rmetal. This album sounds like Load & Reload because someone without ears told me it does so it sucks too. Black is a rsellout album because Enter Sandman and Nothing Else Matters are overplayed. There is no bass on Justice, and rHardwired has the worst album cover of all time. Cliff Burton was a legend, it should have been Lars. This rband sucks. Only the first four albums are good.rAlright, is that everything? Good, now shut the fuck up and thrash m/ m/

2.5 average | iamSeraph | July 2nd 23 | It's not bad by any means, it's just a bit boring and uninspired. Especially in the second half of the record, many songs sound alike or blend into one big mush. There are even some complete duds on here. I honestly liked Hardwired better because it was a bit more aggressive and had more experiments and variety.

4.0 excellent | gviaraujo | April 20th 23 | The Metallica album is surprising, full of novelties, innovative effects and new ways of expressing themselves. One should not expect to hear things from the 80s again and compare it with Hardwired. One must see 72 Seasons as a new Metallica, from the 72 Seasons era. This album presents unique elements that no previous work of the band has achieved, while keeping the essence of Metallica. However, to appreciate it properly, it is necessary to listen to it with good headphones. I can't wait to see them at the Grammy next year. It's interesting to note that, thanks to their performance at the Grammy, Lady Gaga fans got to know Metallica songs, like Halo On Fire haha! And what about the song YOU MUST BURN! Exclamation point! It has an incredible intro and it seems like someone is coming to destroy everything. This song would be great in a movie. I still listen to the new songs trying to guess what will be Lars' next drum beats sequence on the snare, which is nostalgic for those who notice these things. Who is singing in the interlude of You Must Burn!? This is very good. Unfortunately, at the album preview, I agreed with the bad reviews due to the poor distribution of the music in the room, which did not allow hearing all the details as it should. It was only possible to appreciate it with better quality using headphones. However, I am already seeing Lars making a lot of timing mistakes in Lux Æterna in this new tour hahhhahah! The negative point of this album was the lack of slower songs, like in Halo On Fire on the last Hardwired. The album is quite intense, without many pauses. Metallica became huge by releasing slower songs between one part and another of the album, as well as in the middle of the songs. This is how you create the desire to listen to the entire album several times, due to these variations in rhythm. A great example is "Room of Mirrors?" It would be incredible as a ballad. The solo in this song would fit perfectly with a softer song. But overall, the Metallica guys made a great effort for the result of this album. It was possible to hear well and not ironically the best songs of the album were those that when you read the name you already think you're talking about the devil, and that's not a negative point. Inamorata was a great choice to end the album. All fans mentioned this song a lot, which brings a slower part and in the end has a cute farewell from the album.

3.0 good | cjbizzlebizzle | May 2nd 23 | A refreshing surprise that Metallica stuck to uptempo thrashy metal instead of going back to the radio rock era but at the same time this album desperately needs some variety. Unforgiven IV would have been a solid idea or something similar to The Day That Never comes. Metallica are definitely capable of writing more adventurous tunes still but outside of Lux AEterna you have a lot of chuggy, groovy, bluesy metal riffs that sound rather similar. Too Far Gone and Immorata try to provide that respite but by that time you are an hour in and the other tracks have put you into a bit of a trance due to some repetition. Not bad, not great.

2.5 average | EXSCHISM | April 14th 23 | Crown of Barbed Wire is a keeper, best song here easily. Other recommendations, Chasing
Light, 72 Seasons & Shadows Follow. Some cool NWoBHM influences, plus some call back to Load
/ Reload elements keep this sounding different to Hardwired. Bad tendencies like overlong
tracks, with too much of the same tempo hold this back. Lars comes across like if you set up
drums as a placeholder, Hammetts solos are very much improv & come across as additions rather
than something that elevates tracks. Album could have done with some acoustic guitar, or
something to change up the tempo & repetition. If I could more accurately rate this, it'd sit
in at 2.75 I daresay.
