Man how have I, a whole-hearted death metal fan, dismissed Cannibal Corpse for this long? Butchered at Birth may not be as layered as their peers' works at the time, but it's so damn fun to listen to. So many good, meaty riffs here. Some of the catchiest Death metal there is.
Arguebly the worst out of their first 3 albums, but that is exactly why I like it. This album just makes sense to me. The riffs while not completely original are very interesting in the fact that you don't expect them. The cover is the most disgusting and yet intruiging cover in probably all of death metal. And while many people complain about the sound I think this album sounds unique. Butchered at Birth is the perfect album to just slay a massive amounts of zombies to, and I am totally OK with that.
Just a slightly above average release from a decent (Slightly Overrated) Death metal band, but this just set the stage for the greatness of Tomb of the Mutilated and the superb follow up, The Bleeding. After The Bleeding my interest fades.
