3.0 good | willyumz11 | January 2nd 23 | Higher Lonely Power is very well produced and put together record. It”s a pretty ambitious piece for a punk rock band,
playing with blending different genres like Indie Rock, 80s’ goth, and even at times Country. Most songs play around
with structure, and blend well together. They play with a lot of keyboard synth arrangements, blending the guitars with
and distorted bass and a lot of vocal layering. However, some of the simpler structured songs lack punch and aren?t
interesting enough to compete with the better songs of the record. The intro track doesn't really fit into the rest of the
album. While the lyrical content has religious and political themes throughout, you overall don’t really feel what he is
saying or even understand at times. It sort of damps the message down in my opinion.
Overall: 3.16/5
Favorite Track: Machines Kept You Alive
Least Favorite Track: Woods II

2.5 average | ajcollins15 | January 18th 23 | Sounds a lot better the first time you hear it and then from there this record sounds blander and blander the more times you listen to it. The fourth album from the seven-man Michigan feels like a step in the wrong direction in terms of there more big sound they have been developing through the years, don?t get me wrong there are spots on here like ?I Want to Start a Religion With You? that still have it, but there is a lot of average if not boring sounding ideas on here.

2.0 poor | grandfather | January 10th 23 | Bands hopping from pop punk/emo to a more mainstream indie sound rarely works out well, and Fireworks is no exception. The band, unsurprisingly, now sounds like a pop punk band cosplaying indie, albeit without the vocal chops, experience or energy to make the indie aspects work. It's not a terrible record, but I can't imagine anyone going back to this a year from now. I certainly won't be.

3.2 good | Erwann S. STAFF | January 10th 23 | Pop punk band goes for alt-rock (wah bold!) and Arcade Fire-isms (ok now that's kinda bold), and it's aight! Big songs sneaking into the background follow a stomping opener that's nothing more than a big outlier.

3.5 great | Your #1 Most Loved Semiaquatic, Egg-Laying Mammal | January 3rd 23 | I have a lot of respect for the ambition of this record, though I think it would've benefitted
from a bit more focus. Regardless, there's a lot of high quality stuff here. A solid 3.5 in my
book.

5.0 classic | IAmEverest | January 1st 23 | Every album that pop punk band Fireworks has released has been damn near perfect. After Oh, Common Life was released in 2014, they took a hiatus just like many of their peers did from other bands of the era. In 2019 they released their first single Demitase. At the time, they told us that their new album would be released in 2020. And every year that has gone by, they had yet to release it. But that changed today when they did a surprse release of their fourth album Higher Lonely Power. rThis is arguably the best album of their career. Lyrically this is Better than anything they?ve done so far. Musically this feels like a natural progression from Oh Common Life. They went the same route as fellow pop punk band The Wonder Years have gone in recent years and delved more into Indie and Alternative genres. While Higher Lonely Power does have its hints of pop punk, this is not a pop punk album. This is an indie punk and alternative rock album. Fireworks have really shown that they are great song writers and this can not be denied. rI know it?s dumb to say that an AOTY contender can come out on the 1st of the year but this really is. If Higher Lonely Power doesn?t become one of the best albums of 2023, then other albums must be pretty damn good albums released.
