Like the 8th track, this is a bit of a snooze. There is a flagrant lack of dynamics, vocals are too mellow to convince of the emotion they're trying to convey, beats are mild and rarely impacting - and SOS is too long, given the aforementioned elements. There are some great tunes here, but they are drowned in an ocean of tepidness.

I am one of the few people out there that was not sucking SZA?s dick back in 2017 when she released CTRL. It was a decent RnB release with a lot of decent ideas but the album was blotted and suffered from sounding both one-dimensional and to convoluted. But some how SZA doubles down with this on her new (and probably last) album SOS, an extremely bloated and pretty bland RnB project that tries to do everything it can to appease the lowest common denominator. Almost nothing on here is memorable and I pretty much forget what the album sounds like as soon as it?s over. It?s sad because SZA always had potential but for me, there are way better artists out there right now doing what SZA could never do.

SZA releases another vulnerable, insightful pop record in which the ballads actually matter and
the vocal performance could not easily be replaced. Streets ahead of her mainstream
contemporaries.

There are some powerful anthemic songs here, but also a buttload of very standard and unsurprising simplistic RnB tunes that sound like she's running through the checklist of genre cliches. Run that for too long (a whole unnecessary 1 hour runtime) and the whole thing becomes quite frustrating.
