Absolutely amazing album: a concept album executed perfectly. Never have I listened to a hardcore album and wanted to weep like a baby. This band is the real deal

This is a record I really love and know every note from, but whilst it is imo a genuinely good hardcore record both in its angrier moments and in its emotional content, I cannot help but feel like this is a record you look back tenderly to which heightens how good you perceive it is, rather than a genuinely perfect quality record. I am 100% projecting, but it has a touch of a 'music I liked as a teenager' feel that I don't get with some of my other 5s like Mf18M. In light of that, I struggle to justify calling Lost Ground a perfect 5.0, although I did feel it was a 4.6 sort of deal all the way because like I said it remains a really strong EP. The last track being perhaps my least favourite kind of confirms that this probably isn't a true 5 for me. That being said I'd never bump a 5.0 down before wanting to do so on at least two listens, so for now this is still [PENDING]

"Lost Ground" is an amazing EP, and considered by many the best work of the band. I was not thrilled the way i thought it would be, but that does not detract the band's merit and the impact of that album that emerged in the genre as a watershed between Hardcore and Modern Hardcore.

Condensed to a six song EP, the formula of passionate melodic hardcore with an underlying story that Defeater already used on their debut, works even better since the only real flaw on Travels was in my opinion a lack of diversity.

Defeater has become one of my favorite bands. I love the way they tell stories, its incredibly compelling stuff. I also love how they build melodies and bring songs together the right way. Lost Ground is a truly addicting and impressive EP, and one of my favorites.
