Wintersun's self titled album combines power and death metal to make a consistent, entertaining CD. However, it falls too blandness and repetition in to many spots and what's being repeated isn't always that interesting. That said, the drum work is incredible and the guitar work is pretty damn good too. Definitely not a classic, but intriguing and mostly original. If the songs didn't drag as much, this could be 4. Bump

Can't figure out why it took me so long to check this band out. This was a pretty refreshing find in the metal realm, so I'd recommend this to most metal fans. With the inclusion of melodic, folk, and power metal influences, there almost is something for every metal fan. This was a solid release, though a few scattered moments kept this from being a 4.5 or even a classic. There is so much potential here though, so I'm axiously anticipating their next offering. Bump

Metal has now defersified to a point when it is nearly pointless to talk about genres or genre classification. Take Wintersun for instance. Playing a supremely techinical combination of power, death, black, and thrash metal, Wintersun's epic self-titled debut is one of the best albums of the past few years. The songs here are usually very catchy, without substituting any of the brutalness found throughout. All and all, Wintersun has made a great album, and one that is a necessary pick up for any metal fan. Bump

While a little-known two-man act may been seen as monopolized by garage rock bands and kvlt black metal bands, the essence of extreme metal seems to be captured intelligently by any number of people anymore. Finland's Wintersun has succeeded in creating their own unique style while retaining influences from past projects and experiments. After departing from folk metal band Ensiferum, Jari Maenpaa combined folk/viking themes with an affinity for guitar-driven power melodic death metal. The Scandinavian feel combined with the heavy use of synth atmosphere creates an incredibly epic production while Jari's instrumental virtuosity is bound to inspire legions of aspiring metal shredders. Wintersun's debut is an incredibly impressive display of musical and songwriting talent, full of catchy melodies, multiple vocal performances, fast, riveting metal passages, and an overall powerful arrangement of unique extreme metal that no metal fan should pass up. Ahhh so when you said just a Norther rip-off with Folk elements and I said explain, that's what you meant, I got it now. Nah I'm just giving you a hard time man the past is the past. This is my favorite album of all time, I have never heard a more perfect combination of sounds. Each song brings completely different elements to the table while throughout the entire album the epicness just does not let up. This album really takes you away from reality and into some dream world, pure genius. Snappy outro line :p Bump
