I see this album as a return-to-form for Jenny. Whereas her last two albums were basically extensions of the Apocalypse, girl sound (and both I found more than a little underwhelming), this one gets her back on the track of using a different central style every time. This is her first album that finds its foundation in world music elements; a bit new-agey; drums with a tribal sort of flavor. These elements mix with her free-flowing melodies to create a surprisingly fresh, disarmingly introspective, and exceedingly lovely sort of, quote, art pop album. Calling it art pop is a bit misleading though, as its not really as hooky or energetic as that might make you think. Its more like calm, meditative rhythms alongside Jenny singing beautifully but in a meandering sort of way; taking you on a journey through her endearingly esoteric streams of thought, reaching emotional climaxes by way of realizations within the lyrics. You have to follow along to feel it fully, but when you do, its a truly enriching experience.

Jenny Hval?s most recent album is another installment of her ever-evolving art pop sound and in many ways could be her most ?mainstream?. There are some good songs here, but like much of Jenny?s last few albums, she kind of loses her footing on several tracks because she does these strange ambient drone pieces that just add space where space wasn?t needed. But still ?American Coffee? is a true sophisti-pop and ambient pop gem and ?Jupiter? shows off the continuation of her space ambient obsession.

Much more accessible than her previous works, Classic Objects still focuses on delivering introspective ambient pop. Still, this time her sophistication works hand in hand with soft melodies and the emotion pouring out of them.
