Pup deliver some of their greatest songs,
which are a lot of fun, but spoiled by
terrible production.

PUP, going all conceptual on our asses, bring out some of their sharpest and heaviest hooks, as well as their most acid-tongued lyrics. It is not misplaced energy, this. On the contrary, the foursome quite wisely chooses to direct their anger at the commercialisation of their work, exploitation by labels, demands of their audience etc, in the most vicious way possible. But as the result, they come off even more as the pricks they've always painted themselves.

PUP is one of those bands that has always confused me on why they are so popular. Don?t get me wrong their music is a lot of fun and energetic to listen to. But at the end of the day, they have always just sounded like Jeff Rosenstock, which is a solid influence to have for modern rock and hardcore, but it?s really uncanny sometimes the similarities. Still on the band's fourth album, they continue to make fun and enticing music for those that want some bombastic and fun indie punk and emo bangers.

PUP goes all in on gang vocals and really intricate guitar work, which is all unfortunately muddled by really awful engineering and production.

Diving even further into indie rock lands, PUP doesn't stray that much from punk territories in The Unraveling of PUPThe Band. It does showcase their anthemic qualities ("Waiting" or the closer) - although I didn't feel as much enthrallment from these tracks compared to, say, "If This Tour Doesn't Kill You etc". Also wasn't a huge fan of the interludes - although tying the album together, they didn't do much to me musically.
