Getting there. They have an original sound here, but it is bizarrely unfocused with ideas scattered everywhere. My guess is acid had a large part in this creation. Their creativity level has certainly risen though, with lots of interesting melodies, creepy atmosphere, and trippy overall feel. The musicianship still seems a bit amateur, but you should come to expect that from a psychedelic punk band. So overall, the Flaming Lips take a large step creatively, but the ideas seem rather scattered once again.
