Honestly a lot better than the singles implied it was gonna be. The last 4 track streak in

Feels like this is the album where Manuel Gagneux finally realizes his vision, the other two albums to me were a little off the mark but still ambitious. This latest effort is a real humdinger, every song has its own little charm. One of the year's more unique releases for sure.

The Swiss Avant-Garde metal gurus are back with their third record as a band and Manuel Gagneux's fourth record as the name Zeal and Ardor and they continue to perfect this black metal spiritual and blues combination that they have been developing since the beginning. The self-titled record even sees the band starting to play with more synthesizers and metalcore-style riffs and melodies. But overall, this is a heavy and blistering metal project that explores many topics of black spirituality, manly hood, and racism. Great project if you?re looking for something a little more on the artistic side of black metal.

I love Stranger Fruit, I saw them live, but self titled album just doesn't speak to me. Some good hooks here and there, maybe Manuel this time is to weak for me. Nothing sticks after all this time.

Z'n'A dial down on the black metalism, and kinda fails at evoking the same apocalyptic spiritualism when it goes for rawrist riffs. On the opposite side of the spectrum, their spiritual indie pop tracks are the ones that work the best at clashing different universes together. Kinda messy and not refined but these dudes sure can strike gold when they're in the mood (which isn't always).
