slipknots first live album should not dissapiont any slipknot fans. ill do this sound off differently to a normal(not normal= live, compilation, greatest hits) sound off.
the good things:
they play very solidly. they play all of their classic songs with ease. they picked their best songs and it shows. you can listen to both discs the whole way through without skipping any tracks. that is rare for any slipknot album because there is always a few shit tracks, so to have this, its just brilliant.
i bet from all of that youre wondering why i didnt give it a 5, but this is the part which i wish didnt have to be here, but..........
the bad things:
the performances werent always perfect, especially the ones from s/t and iowa. why? i assume you will ask, well, the songs are 8/9 perfect. that 1/9 is in fact the bands frontman, corey tayler. i have heard rumors that from the mask he wore for the subliminal verses tour(when this was recorded) that his mask prevented him from sceaming properly. whether that rumor is true or not, i stand by my opinion that corey had a terrible screaming voice for this album. he was really off-putting, you couldnt pay attention to the other instruments or the actual song. there wasnt as much screaming on the subliminal verses than the other albums so that was okay
summary:
despite the singing this is a great album which if you are a slipknot fan then you should definetly check out.

This album helped me get through my senior essay in high school. The album is mostly texture over anything musical, but it definitely succeeds in that aspect.

This album dissapointed me to a large extent, to a point of where I wouldn't want to see them in concert. Corey Taylor sounds like the Mic is in his mouth and he's just breathing on to the Mic and humming a little bit. While the band is somewhat decent behind him it still highly dissapoints.

Based on the selection of tracks, one would think 9.0 Live to be an excellent package with potential staying power. The unfortunate reality, however, is that despite sounding authentic, it fails to give a proper idea of how good the band can sound live. Nowhere is this more prevalent than in Corey Taylor's constant, painfully underwhelming vocal deliveries. Instrumentally, 9.0 Live is more inconsistent, but the implication of anger never truly breaks out during this collection of performances.

Live albums can do one of two things; enhance the listening experience with atmosphere, or ruin the listening experience with a lack of engaging atmosphere. This album enhances the listening experience. While playing different songs, corey taylor commands the crowd to do different things during the songs, and if you've ever seen the amount of people at slipknot concerts, it's pretty incredible to imagine the crowds as you listen to this album. Admittedly taylor's voice is rather off, probubly because he's been doing this for a while now and rumor is that Vol. 3 is their last release. ANYWAYS, his screams are not as powerful, so that's a downfall. All and all it's a good listen, but only if you're a slipknot fan and have heard their studio recordings beforehand. Do not make this your first slipknot listen. It will not do justice to how corey taylor really sounds.
